Guest galorin Posted April 5, 2011 Report Posted April 5, 2011 Spotted this on the Android subreddit, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010807 and don't have my replacement Blade yet to try it out on. Some users on other phones say it makes no practical difference. My thoughts are that it would depend heavily on individual usage patterns. It may be useful in places like the photo gallery's initial loading, or anything that requires a sustained, high speed sequential read from SD. May find the default size on the Blade, and work it in incriments, see if there is any appreciable difference. Readahead, by my understanding is useless for random reads, and it has no write performance increase, as it is a read cache. If it is set too high, then the system may be reading ahead the wrong data, need to clear it, and re-read, which I think is what is called cache thrashing, and not a good thing.
