I searched the forum but it seems everyone has a much simpler problem than mine (just digitiser shuttered or not working)

My phone has a half black screen. I don't recall dropping it. I did sit on it for a few secs - had it in my back pocket got in the car, sat, felt it, took it out. then 20 mins later, when I got home, I saw the problem. Digitizer fine, not a scratch.

Took it apart, thought perhaps a cable (?) would have gotten loose or smth. but nothing.

put it back together, still the same prob. half the screen is total black, the other half is half fully functioning, the other half like a raster.

any ideas? I love my Sf, and living in Greece meant I had to go to some trouble finding friends of friends to purchase and bring it to me.

Thanks for your time and (if any) your input.

J

If the divide between the working screen and black part a clean line, or is it a bit of a mess?

It its a mess its almost undoubtedly hardware (your screen is broken, happened to me on my old tocco lite, when my phone got lobbed across the room by a certain SOMEONE)

And even if it is a clean, smooth, straight line, its still most likely hardware, your screen is probably broken.

Though it MAY be a sofware thing...

Are you on the stock ROM (have you put a custom rom on your phone, or not?, if so, which custom ROM?)

I am including two pics to make things more comprehensible.

Custom rom - modaco r12 (if i am not mistaken) flashed it last week from r4

Shame about the image quality :D. From them I think its MOST LIKELY hardware, unfortunately.

Try a new ROM, Flb r11?

I doubt it will help.

In fact, just boot into clockwork (volume down and power)

And if the screen is the same in clockwork, its hardware.

And im guessing it is hardware related.

It MAY HELP (but probably only temporarily) to take of the digitizer screen and GENTLY rub the lcd

sorry about the quality but it was taken with a trusty SE k800i. the phones from that era were 'dogs'.

the only fast way to take a pic right now

how exactly do you mean gently rub.?

i dunnp my guess was that one of those cables that look like plastic belts (dunno the term) would have been damaged.

but electronics not my field. =(.

and if i buy a new one, it wont be amoled.

it wont have 512mb

and might be GEN2

argh..

there is a small cable in top of the blade near the power button

see if it is not misplaced

(of course remove battery)

This also happened to me, but I didn't sit on it or anything. I locked it and putted it into my pocket, a minute late I picked it up and the screen was half black. It has been sent away for repair.

I took that one out and then put it back in when I opened it up. no changes.

i would think that the one that goes to the screen though would be the one on the side, on top of the up/down buttons.

I'm going t get a little off topic here.

actually i might get a chance to get a new sf from the uk. i am a little confused about gen1/gen2.

is there a possibility that the new sf will be gen2 or not? if so, can i still flash modaco custom roms or not? (the gen2 guide only talks about some swedish ver)

Thanks,

J

if only i knew my friend's sister was coming n monday for a few days, i would have tried to revert it to stock rom instead of getting the screwdriver in my hands.

and then possibly get it repaired. too bad. =(

Yeah, the first thing I did was to revert to stock, and that didn't work so I sent it in for repair
