Guest mupwangle Posted April 5, 2011 Report Posted April 5, 2011 Recently I replaced my desire due to the original having issues with failing GPS and various buttons. Unfortunately the new one seems to have an issue with the proximity sensor. I was under the impression that the proximity sensor and the ambient light sensor were the same module, but it appears that one has failed and not the other. I've tried various sensor test apps and all of the concur that the light sensor is OK but the proximity sensor is dead. Does anyone have any ideas how to progress other than sending the phone back? Thanks
Guest bpivk Posted April 5, 2011 Report Posted April 5, 2011 Send the phone back if you didn't root it yet. And the proximity and light sensors are not the same. You can check the screen and you'll see two little dots near the speaker. One is the light and the other is the proximity sensor.
Guest mupwangle Posted April 5, 2011 Report Posted April 5, 2011 Not that I believe that your advice on return is incorrect, however the proximity sensor and the light sensor on the desire are both part of the same component - the capella CM3602 - http://www.capellamicro.com.tw/EN/products...=45&mode=16 although the aperture from which they collect data may be different. Since neither are blocked then it sounds like a component failure, but I was hoping that it might just be a firmware fixable issue.
Guest bpivk Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 You didn't tell us if your phone is rooted or not. If it is try with a different radio/RIL or a different rom completely there could be some driver issue if you have a custom rom. But it should work out of the box. If not you should check for an OTA update and if there isn't one get the phone replaced.

I thought it might be the case, but thought I'd check. Cheers.
