How do I backup from JJ and install Swedish Spring?

I have the latest version of JJ installed on the phone, but want to upgrade to Swedish Spring. I've downloaded Titanium Backup (free version).

Is it simply a matter of selecting the apps I want to save data for? Most important are numbers and SMS - what do need to look for in the app list? I understand that everything will be saved on the SD card.

When the backup is done I guess I simply copy across the fw for Swedish Spring to the SD card root, reboot, enter xrecovery and install. Then I root etc, but I don't have to reinstall xrecovery and Busybox again right?

Finally, I reinstall Titanium and restore - do I need to download the app off Market first, or will Titanium reinstall that as well?

Many thanks!

Press the menu key on titanium and you can select batch opperations to make it easier. But essentialy you do just select which apps you want to backup.

On the restore you will have to redownload Titanium backup and then restore (once again there is batch restore)

On clockwork ensure you first make a nandroid backup then wipe date/cache, then install SS. You will not have to root after this.

Restoring any system settings (contacts, SMSs, wireless APs, language settings, etc.) on a different ROM can cause the new ROM to not work properly or even at all. Although, if you do have problems after restoring something you can always boot into recovery and wipe data/cache and start the ROM configuration task again.

To move contacts/phone numbers/etc. between ROMs you are better off syncing contacts with your Gmail account (settings->accounts & sync and tick both boxes [background data and auto-sync]), rather than using Titanium Backup.

I haven't experienced any problems restoring SMSs through Titanium Backup (note you have to reboot after restoring settings to see the changes) but I haven't tried every migration scenario. I have had problems with restoring other systems settings, though - especially wireless APs.

I have been trying to find out which systems settings are safe to restore using Titanium Backup and which are not, but I haven't got very far and the best advice seems to be to not try to restore any of them, and if you do, be prepared to wipe data/cache and start again if you run into trouble.
