Guest finbaar Posted April 7, 2011 Report Posted April 7, 2011 Got a used SE X10 for £100 on Saturday so this will now be my new toy. The Blade, however, lives on as Mrs finbaar's phone. It will now stay on FLB 10b and I will never find out if the battery issues I was having with SS RLS3 were cured for my phone with RLS4 as Mrs finbaar is happy with how it running now and does not share my enthusiasm for fiddling about. As for me I am very happy with the X10 and now, of course, have rooted it and am running a custom 2.2 ROM. It does mean that I will leave the happy land of MoDaCo (I joined the day I got my blade on 7 October 2010) and enter the somewhat more aggressive XDA forum as that is where the X10 action is. The Blade beats the X10 for pocket friendliness and has much better wifi range. The OLED screen was a joy to behold on the Blade but the TFT screen on the X10 also has its advantages. And I must say the 2.2 ROMs for the Blade are much more stable than those for the X10 (which is to be expected I suppose considering what they are based on). A big thanks to all the devs on here but especially Paul and Flib, you have freed our phones from the Orange yolk!

Guest Azurren Posted April 7, 2011 Report Posted April 7, 2011 The x10 is getting an official 2.3 update soon :D Gotta say the device has nice specs, on par with the desire / nexus one but really let down by bloatware and outdated software
Guest Frankish Posted April 7, 2011 Report Posted April 7, 2011 X10 isn't too bad really. Plus it now has a hacked bootloader which is great.

I remember going grey waiting for 2.1 Dont hold you breath B) I've done the opposite and ditched the X10 for a SanFran ..... on the De-Oranged rom and if i'm good I can go almost a week without charging (very light use) Hope you enjoy your X10 more than I did, the only thing I miss is the camera "/
Guest Frankish Posted April 7, 2011 Report Posted April 7, 2011 True about SE timeframes! OT: Nice to see i'm not the only one from Yorkshire in the Blade forums!

Guest daveyork84 Posted April 7, 2011 Report Posted April 7, 2011 My girlfriend offered me her X10. Wouldn't touch that thing with a bargepole. So I got a white SF, much better.

Lol, I quite fancy the X10 myself, been looking at them on eBay but they all go foe £150 plus, I'd quite happily swap my amoled blade for one.

I would as well actually ;) The only thing wrong with the device is the bloatware.. That can be easily removed the same way as the SFs :D Granted people had to suffer with it for longer than we did though
Guest BigD18t Posted April 7, 2011 Report Posted April 7, 2011 Im going to keep looking, might find a cheap one. Guest Steep Posted April 7, 2011 Report Posted April 7, 2011 I came to the OSF/Blade from an Xperia X8 (by way of a Samsung Bada pos) the X8 was a nice little phone but had a huge problem for me, it's antenna is very poor so it loses signal where most other phones will work fine. I had mine replaced initially but the replacement was just as bad and I suspect the X10 will have the same problem, although it is a bit bigger in size. I live and travel a lot in an area where the signal can be very patchy so good reception is important to me. The Samsung was excellent reception wise but Bada is just awful! The OSF is as good and Android of course rocks!

The X10 doesn't have the same issue :D Antenna faults rarely appear, usually if the manufacture creates a device with antenna faults then they take extra precautions when designing others so that it doesn't happen again. Take the iPhone 4 for example, apple have been tripple checking everything since then Also the Blade has pretty poor signal strength compared to other android / non android phones
Guest droweed Posted April 7, 2011 Report Posted April 7, 2011 well dont worry about your x10s 2.2 roms, cause i read it on someones twit about SE releasing gb on it, just dunno when lol
Guest todoleo Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 Enjoy your X10 and have fun when Gingerbread is released in August/September! I'll stick with my HTC Desire and Blade. I hope the big nasty boys at XDA don't hurt your feelings... :D
Guest Steep Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 Also the Blade has pretty poor signal strength compared to other android / non android phones That's not my experience, the OSF easily holds its' own against the Samsung 525 and LG cookie, both phones I've used in the past without reception problems. It's miles better than the X8 was.
Guest Frankish Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 Blade poor signal strength? My HTC Desire must have been faulty then. At home and around my home area i couldn't ever get 3G or H i had to travel half a mile up the road to get it. On my Blade i constantly have 2-3 bars H. I find this bizarre but i did read a lot of Desire complaints about signal strength.

Guess that's the price you pay for a gorgeous device :D No but seriously half the time we have no idea of our signal strength.. Either full bars, 1 bar or no service (Any rom using 2.2 or 2.3) Gotta wonder if it can be fixed :S
Guest thedandyp Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 My first android phone was the Pulse which I owned for about 6 months, now that had awful reception; i'd get no signal in my house, where 10 minutes previously I had full 3g, and of course turning data on or off meant a period of 2-3 seconds of no signal, before the pulse re-connected to a network. In comparison to that, my blade has been fantastic, sure there are moments when i'm down to 1 bar signal for no valid reason...but this doesn't actually appear to affect the real-life signal, just the graphic of the signal indicator. To the best of my knowledge, in the 6 (ish) months i've had the blade I can't remember a single time when i've had no service/signal (once apns have been set-up preperly).
Guest finbaar Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 Thanks for the replies guys. Comments about the X10 being hampered by bloatware are true for stock ROMs but there are of course a whole world of custom 2.1, 2.2 & 2.3 ROMs that are available. Not sure about the X10 being ugly as it is a personal thing I suppose. Still, one week in the X10 rocks. Of course MoDaCo introduced me to the wonderful world of custom ROMs and I fully expect to find another phone (for the right price of course) in a few months time. Interestingly Mrs finbaar is getting 4+ days use out of the Blade - I got 1. This shows two things, Flibs ROM is very good and I was addicted to my Blade (or maybe that should be addicted to Android). Can't imagine having this much fun with an iPhone and I would be several hundred pounds out of pocket.
