Guest Vansphone Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 (edited) When I power on I get a black screen with "Starting Fastboot USB download protocol" Can someone tell me how to boot normally? I have tried to boot into recovery which I think is - back button, back button + power button, then just back button, but it just goes in to Fastboot screen. Thanks Edited April 9, 2011 by Vansphone

Thanks Try to press power button very long (30 sec) to make sure the Vega is really off. Then try to reboot. If it goes again into this you might need to reflash your ROM. If you're lucky your data and settings are still there.
Guest simonkn8574 Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 Has anyone survived the USB protocol screen of death? I thought it meant certain reflash??
Guest beegee1962 Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 Has anyone survived the USB protocol screen of death? I thought it meant certain reflash?? In Vega Tools 3.0 there is an option to flash something that prevents BSOD. Maybe it helps as well against this problem.

Yes there are thread where this has been discussed and cured. This is an example. Fastboot tread However, I simply do not understand some of the posts. Can anyone explain what this one means? "Extracted the contents of the 1.06.5 image to a folder (run the exe without the vega plugged in and it will show you the path where the contents of the exe file were extracted to. e.g. c:\docume~1\Mark\locals~1\Temp) Then managed to restore the boot image from the extracted exe and reboot using command below fastboot flash boot boot.img fastboot reboot" I have unzipped/extracted the .exe to a folder. But how do I use the commands? Thanks
Guest Vansphone Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 What an effort that was. I tried a different PC, followed the official Advent Vega method, installed the Nvidia fastboot driver and used the Advent 1.09 image file. I then reloaded r8.

Thanks I started a command prompt, navigated to the folder where the boot.img was saved (i used the boot.img from Paul's mcr rom) and then just typed the first line and pressed enter, then the second line. My Vega restarted and it was back to normal. Hope that helps.

Guest ace_dynamo Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 Yes thanks that does help. My pleasure, i've been helped by so many other peope's posts that it's good to help others too, especially as this exact problem occurred to me earlier today!
