Guest Christo0908 Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 I'm looking for a new Android powered phone, not neccessarily to replace my Blade, just as a seperate phone as I have a T Mobile SIM and a giffgaff SIM. My budget is UP TO £240 as I have seen that Phones4U are doing the HTC Desire for that price, however, I have also looked at and considered the Wildfire, Xperia X8, X10, X10 Mini and Mini Pro. Obviously something that is going to be on par, or better than the Blade. I love my Blade, however, I'm looking for something different as well, if anyone can recommend any decent phones for that price, it would be appreciated. Thanks
Guest Azurren Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 (edited) HTC desire is still a great device The original galaxy S could be found at around that price as well The X10 with heavy modding is good too The Skate will be coming along sooner or later Wildfire.. Avoid it like the plague! If you want something with a low rez screen pick up the pulse mini for £20 As for the other X-- phones.. Meh they ain't anything special Ever consider a tablet? The advent vega is going for under £200, a ZTE honeycomb tablet will be coming out sometime this year too Combine the vega with a 3g dongle and it can be a "phone" Edited April 9, 2011 by Azurren
Guest Christo0908 Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 Cheers, ye I've considered tablets, but they're just too big to fit in your pocket, plus I've heard mixed rumours about the Vega, Preferably, I'd only like to spend about £100-150 on a new phone, but should need be, I will stretch to £240, I've actually considered the Pulse Mini, with the amount of support for it on various forums including this one, however, I really want a capacative screen. For some reason, I keep coming back to the Xperia models such as the X10 Mini Pro, the camera and media functions seem fantastic, although the X10 seems to have been pulled by most of the network providers and is only available via eBay etc. could you tell me how the X8 matches up to the San Francisco/Blade? Thanks, sorry about all the noob questions, I just don't want to have to take a phone back because it doesn't work how I want it to.
Guest ms20 Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 (edited) The x8 isn't bad but the screen is only a 3.2in 480 by 320 lcd, apart from that it's pretty similar to the blade (tbh it would be a downgrade) You can get most of last years high end phones on ebay for less than £250, you can get the huawei u8800 for £250 at the carphone warehouse or you could go for the desire. Anything less than that would be a downgrade as the blade is priced very low already considering its specs. Edited April 9, 2011 by ms20
Guest rbbrslmn Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 anyone after a android phone on a seriously small budget: http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/pay-as-you-...ulse-mini-pink/ yes its pink, but its not a bad phone at all, by far the best phone you can get for under £50

Thanks of all the phones you listed only the desire and x10 would be upgrades from the blade. personally I am waiting for the skate, have an OLED version of the blade and if I get the timing right I'll still be able to get more than I paid for it on ebay when the skate comes out.
Guest Christo0908 Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 As I said, I'm not really looking for an upgrade, unless I can get an upgrade from the ZTE Blade, I am looking to use another phone as a spare, Blade still being my main phone, only issue with Desire is the price, it still seems abit steep to me, but if the phone is as good as reviews say, then I will end up going for it. And like I said, the X10 seems to have been pulled from shops such as T Mobile, Orange, Vodafone etc and only looks to be available on the web. Cheers for the info guys, much appreciated, I think it's swinging towards Desire at the moment, abit steep but it will be my new main phone I suppose! :)
Guest curl66 Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 i have the galaxy 9000 and its really good with the 4 inch amoledscreen. alos speed and batterie life is good. only backdraw is that until now no CM7 or MIUI is available for daily use. the samsung roms sucks a little it because gps doesnt work.alos some bugs with email client. this month 2.3.3 is officially available that fix this bugs (got it already) anyway. hope in the next weeks miui is available because since i got common with CM7 on the blade i no longer enjoy stock roms :)
Guest Frankish Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 As a spare the best you can go there is actually the Desire. I had one and i wish i never sold it, HTC Sense is very interesting to use most people like it. Desire has good support, is overclockable to around 1.2ghz stable. Screen was really nice on mine but i had an early one not a TFT one.

Had mine for >1 year, left it stock and it just works smoothly and superbly, still looks great, won't embarrass you in iPhone company and truly demonstrates that you do get what you pay for...

As an X10 owner I would second the Desire as the best to go for. I looked enviously at two Desires at work when I had my Blade and think they are great phones - especially at that price. They will work superb out of the box. Mind you don't get me wrong, I think my modded X10 is now better than the stock Desires but it was not for the faint hearted. Good job I had picked up plenty of experience with the Blade. And I only paid £100 :-)
Guest Christo0908 Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 Wicked Cheers for the input guys, think I'm gonna go for the Desire, seems to have been the best since day 1, still matches up to some more modern phones too. Looked at some videos of HTC Sense and it does seem REALLY user friendly, abit more so than stock Eclair/froYo alone. Enough to leave it alone without rooting it until the warranty's actually out anyway. How does one tell if the HTC Desire is branded under a network operator or not? as it's from Phones4U available on multiple networks, could it quite possibly already be unlocked? I heard that only un branded Desires had a Froyo update available OTA. You've all been helpful in making my decision! Thanks

Thanks It will generally be unlocked, CPW and P4U, for instance, simply couldn't keep 1 of every network branded handset, so the signs are good. If you buy in shop, of course, they can show you the box - and will verify. Edited April 10, 2011 by Len Ash
Guest arcoman Posted June 12, 2011 Report Posted June 12, 2011 At least on ZTE Racer I could solve the issue... I found a modified skype version that works perfect. Who is interested to try, the download link is: http://www.fileserve.com/file/FheKBkU
