Really miserable - just can't get Activesync to work - HELP

As hard as I've tried, it won't work. Tried the USB uninstall, Activesync uninstall etc to no avail.

When going through the Wizard and checking COM ports, I get no further. Up comes a list of what's available, so I click NEXT and again the PV tries to ID what is connected. Just repeats the process.

So far no partnership.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE would somone help me out?

I had this problem while trying to sync over IR, and bizarrely ActiveSync started working after I installed Outlook 2000 (I didn't want it on my laptop).
