Guest Deus_ex11 Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 (edited) Since there are not many apps, games and widgets specially for honeycomb tablets out yet. I thought i'd make this thread for listing what currently works and doesn't. I will update this first post as you post your findings. Happy hunting. Apps Free Dr.Web Anti-virus Light - This should be one of the first things you should get. It detected the EICAR Anti-virus Test. Firefox 4.0 - The keyboards work better in this browser. Use this if the android browser is lagging when typing. Formula1.com 2011 - I'm a big F1 fan so this comes in handy when your watching on the sofa. VTL.Launcher - Link Launcher made for tablets. Not on the market yet. Games Free Dungeon Defenders - First Wave Deluxe - Hack and slash RPG. Single player and online play. Plays really smooth. Tegra 2 support AirAttack HD Part 1 - Top down air combat shoot'em up. Tegra 2 support Widgets Gauge Battery Widget - show battery life in % on the home bar, also a guage on the home screen. Voltage and temperature is shown but no idea if accurate. Edited April 10, 2011 by Deus_ex11
Guest ChakMD Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 Just a few apps that are not optimised for tablets yet, but are essential for me in improving tablet functionality/experience:- Gmote - turns the tablet into a remote touchpad/keyboard to control other devices. Also allows streaming of media over network to tablet with rockplayer (or similar) installed Rockplayer lite - allows playing of large number of media file types. Via sotware only, hardware decoding not supported yet. SwiFTP - wireless transfer of files to android from computer. Teamviewer - easy to use/setup remote desktop software to control connected devices via tablet.
Guest ritdaw Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 Glad to hear the f1 app works, look forward to using it when I get mine.
Guest mamoulian Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 (edited) All apps from my phone were auto-installed, so i've been working through them... Most stretch ok, but some have orientation problems - e.g. only work in portrait, or won't go upside down. Bad: eBuddy crashed, poweramp crashed, speedforge3d won't scale, turbofly 3d scales but the tilt is reversed, Google my maps editor crashed, Layar is 90° out, Asphalt 5 refuses to run, Tweetdeck refuses to run in landscape, Bubble is upside down. Facebook scales ok but needs some fragment love. Scales well: Alchemy (lots of space), tower raiders 2, raging thunder 2, connectbot, all VNC programs I've tried, apps organiser (icons are small but popup window large), feedly and pulse (google reader) fill the screen nicely, but feedly only portrait Great - supports fragments: Flixter movies, most Google apps, email Browser needs a sessionsaver. Gauge Battery Widget is cool, thanks for that. Got VNC working 'ok' by changing the server res to 1280x750. Favourite one is 'androidVNC' (no ads) but the keyboard doesn't pop up when you hold menu like it does on a phone, so there's no way to bring it up. Not happy with any of the keyboards really... just as good there's a keyboard dock! Don't like that sometimes the menu button is down the bottom left and sometimes it's up the top right. Edit: add feedly and pulse Edited April 10, 2011 by mamoulian
Guest ChakMD Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 (edited) The Facebook app is horrible on the larger devices. Needs to be optimised and more user friendly with all the extra screen space, but I guess they will realise that in time. The iPlayer app is another one that doesn't seem to functioning on the tablet correctly, as mention by a few others in the forum. Good thing is both of these can be easily accessed in their true form via the browser. I believe on the US android market they have a section for tablets, which I have yet to find on our device's market. Oh and Kindle scales well and works great on the tablet, but I believe it is optimised for the bigger screen. Text is very crisp, and reading in portrait on that IPS is wonderful. Edit:- credit to AFK_Matrix for pointing me to UPnPlay. Works well, and scales well for bigger screen. Recently updated for xoom and other tegra 2 devices. In addition to a multi format video player can stream from your home media server and play most media files (limited of course to the video player you use) Edited April 11, 2011 by ChakMD
Guest phil-t Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 I tried a few apps Don't quite work perfectly 1. Miren Browser - Awesomely faster then the stock one, but force closes quite a lot (when switching between apps and this, I suspect it's a multi-tasking issue) 2. Dolphin HD - Almost works, just the very odd force close when app switching, but still immensely faster then the stock browser Works 1. Angry Birds of course I didn't get to try too much, I was a bit disappointed in a few things, so have returned it after just 2 days, and will await HC getting some updates, I'm too used to Launcher Pro with resizeable widgets and the like.. but I loved some aspects of HC, the app switching, the notification bar, and if they where resizeable, the HC Widgets are really nice..
Guest mimminito Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 Best app I have installed so far is SwiftKey Tablet Edition! Makes typing so much easier, brilliant design too. This is still in beta though and only available to users who are SwiftKey VIP members. When it becomes public though, its going to be the number one typing solution for tablets in landscape mode I think!
Guest Uxian Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 Broken: Photos Around (FC on start) Working with and ugly 'expanded phone' layout: Kindle Google Reader Facebook Meebo IM Dropbox eBay Skype (not the leaked video version) Weatherbug Working well and look OK on a larger screen: PicSay Pro Photoshop Express Blogger Compass (though the scaled up graphics are a little laggy) Documents To Go LOL Sites Sky+ Slingplayer

Fits in with the honeycomb ui really well, one of the best apps for this tablet so far.
Guest goldsmither Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Hi Best wishes to all, can anyone help me connect this to a Mac to transfer files etc, awesome machine by the way.
Guest Matchstick Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Hi Best wishes to all, can anyone help me connect this to a Mac to transfer files etc, awesome machine by the way. Google have moved to using the Media Transfer Protocol for moving files to honeycomb tablets instead of the standard USB Mass Transfer protocol we know and love. This works OK on windows (you might need to install WMP10 to get it working on XP) but OSX doesn't have native support for it in the OS. Fortunately there are a number of third party solutions and I use http://www.android.com/filetransfer/ which seems to work fine. (I've put in a suggestion to the makers of PathFinder that they add MTP support into a future version but I won't hold my breath and in the meantime Android File transfer works for me and even opens automatically when you plug in the tablet.)
Guest evorgevol Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Just found a thread on xoomforums containing a list of 'optimised for honeycomb' apps. I've not tried most of them on the eee pad, but hopefully gives us a starting point!! :)
Guest mimminito Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 I dont know if 'self promotion' is allowed on here, but my Color Time Live Wallpaper is pretty good on the Transformer! Scales nicely and the Time is displayed pretty good. (Delete this post if its not allowed please)
Guest goldsmither Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Many thanks matchstick, works like a charm
Guest mimminito Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Has anyone tested Worms on the Transformer? It states it does not support the Galaxy Tab or Dell Streak, so didnt know if it supported large screen devices?
Guest my_big_feet Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Has anyone tested Worms on the Transformer? It states it does not support the Galaxy Tab or Dell Streak, so didnt know if it supported large screen devices? I was playing Worms just this morning - works great! There were two minor issues: - menu graphics are low-res - changing a weapon is a a blur of icons - sound clipping - when you have all the worm chatter after every move, this gets a little annoying. It's like a little "chclick" at the end of each sound. It's perfectly playable though, and good fun.

Guest Matchstick Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Can we add 1 VPN to the list of apps that DON'T work. I've mailed the devs and they are looking into the problem (basically the software can't access the VPN Service) but without access to the Honeycomb source they don't know when they'll be able to fix it.
Guest ritdaw Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Is there any way we can search the Android Market website for apps only supporting the Honeycomb or higher API?
