I thought it might be an idea to have things in one thread to keep things tidy - otherwise it tends to get very cluttered having single issue threads.

At least to start with, until Paul and the developers get their teeth into things (but if this doesn't work, just ignore it and it'll probably sink to the bottom and die a death anyway!

So far, I think it's got great build quality, and the screen is different class to the Vega, but I've come across a few things while I've been using it:

1) I've noticed the AC adapter gets very hot on mine while it's charging. Is this the same for others?

2) I can't seem to get it to sleep - if I press the power button, it blanks the screen, but then comes back after about 10 seconds (on the lock screen). It then cycles through the same screen off/screen awake thing unless I just turn it off. I've downloaded a few things from the market so I'm not sure if there's a conflict somewhere and I don't want to do a factory reset just yet. Has anyone else encountered anything like this?

3) Is there any way of getting rid of the status-bar while you're watching movies. I use the QQPlayer and even in "full screen" mode it still shows the bar at the bottom.

There is a very fine plastic bezel around the screen (between the glass screen and the metal chassis), mine has a few etches in it, like the area has been eaten away by acid.

Also on the left side of the device pressing down on the back causes the back to cave in slightly, as though as if the back isn't glued down properly"

Anyone noticed any of these?

To OP:

1) no idea

2) nope, power button works like most other power buttons for me

3) iirc, its impossible to hide that status bar, honeycomb-optimized apps (check out Youtube or Gallery) are allowed to cause the status bar to go into a 'low-key' mode, but the idea is that the status bar replaces the capacitive (or physical) buttons that one would expect on the face of a tablet.

I have not had the sleep mode issue either, and would like to get rid of the status when watching full screen (using rockplayer lite).

What I have noticed is fairly significant back light bleed from the bottom midde edge of the screen (held landscape). Anyone else notice this on their tablet?

Black image that works well to test:-

Yes charger gets hot, no sleep button is fine, yes I see the light bleeding too, plastic screen bezel is fine no etches, pressing the back anywhere causes it to creak and deform a bit, yes status bar seems ever present except for in youtube app.

How is everyone's compass?

Mine is screwy. Tilting the device makes it worse.

Especially noticeable in Google Sky Map as you tilt it above your head to look up.

Hey

I was wondering if anyone could comment on battery life ?

Is it better/worse than the Vega?

cheers

Battery Life was excellent on mine 7 hours of use and still above 10% over the weekend.

Issues..

1. A bit of backlight bleed, three points along the bottom, one on the bottom left, and a weird patch on the right, In daylight you'd not notice, but watching iPlayer in a dimmed room on an evening was quite distracting

2. My right speaker was much louder then the left by some margin..

3. Sliding between screens wasn't silky smooth, a slightly low framerate effect, as was opening/closing the app drawer, this killed it a bit for me, I did turn off animations (Settings->Screen), and this did improve the homescreen transitioning, but anything that caused an overlay effect then sent it back to a lower framerate, going to a fulls screen app (e.g. just the settings would do) and then pressing home was enough to get it smooth again.. But after a couple of apps installed, it just wouldn't transition smoothly, if Paul can optimise that a bit, it'd go a long way, or maybe 1280*800 is asking too much of even the Tegra 2?

4. The nice new scrollable HC widgets aren't resizeable.. bit of a shame really.

5. A few normal Android apps seem to force close after being in the background for a while, I suspect most apps will need a few tweaks (and the new GB 2.3.1 is supposed to have some stuff it to let GB be more compatible with HC apps wise)

HC as an idea is superb though, my god, the notification bar, the app switching preview thing, is just sublime, if someone can make it visually as smooth (high framerate) as an iPad, it really deserves to sell by the bucketload..

I did return mine today, but if it all gets tweaked/sorted over the coming months, I'll get another, this time with the dock..

Anyone else having an issue with backlight bleed?

I have three patches along the bottom a few on the right and one on the left. Considering sending it back and hoping its sorted for the first keyboard bundle batch.

Maybe a few emails to asus uk about the issue would help.

- Battery life is good for me too, easy 6+ hours of actual use (browsing/poker/movies) with long periods of "sleep" in between before it prompted for charging.

- Haven't noticed backlight bleeding (but maybe I haven't looked for it - I'll check next time I use it).

- My browser (the stock one) has frozen/closed on me a couple of times. It sometimes goes non-responsive.

One other thing, I ordered some screen protectors for the Vega (which I owned for a week before returning) which have just arrived and they're about 5 mm too wide on either side for the Transformer but just about right on the width (going right from edge to edge). I've cut it down to size as a "temporary" fix but they're not ideal. Also, don't go for the anti-glare ones as they do make the screen look noticeably duller

Doesn't that thing have Gorilla Glass?

backlight bleed here too.... cant belive it, bought brand new today. as a premium product compared to the vega im shocked. yes, the viewing angles are extremely good but theres uneven backlight bleed all around the edges and about a third of the way in a weird blob of light noticable on dark backgrounds. the rear camera is very intermittent, sometimes not working at all, sometimes showing distorted images. im taking it back tomorrow, any have any xperience of returning goods to comet? ill happily take another but want to inspect it first.

Not alot on the comet site about returning faulty goods but you can return items bought online to you're local store which is handy.

Will probably return mine tomorrow. Local store wasn't expecting stock until the end of the month so considering pre ordering the Acer Iconia A100, Thats the 7" one.

Tried a Galaxy Tab, Touchwiz is terrible but I preferred the form factor.

Regarding the backlight bleeding, my iPad2 has the same and so does my friends iPad2, mostly noticeable with dark images or websites. The fact that Honeycomb has the fixed bar along the bottom which is mostly quite dark seems to make this more noticeable. I can live with it.

If Steve Jobs were reading this, he'd probably say about the backlight bleed "Don't look at it. Problem solved". :)
