So I installed Swedish Spring RLS4 recently, was working great for about a week/2 weeks, giving good battery scores. Then suddenly I wake up to find the phone very hot on the back on charge and now i'm losing about 1% battery every 10 minutes, and the back gets very hot at times. It only last about 5/6 hrs tops!!

Tried recharging a few times, tried clearing cache, made no difference. Should I try a data wipe and re-flash maybe? Can any one help? Any ideas appreciated.

Unlikely that it has "become" like that. What else have you done? Particularly Apps and/or settings?

Two item to check:

1) Did you recently install any new applications? Some applications prevent the phone to go to sleep.

2) Check if the wi-fi is set to go to sleep when the screen turns off: Settings --> Wireless & Networks --> Wi-fi settings --> Menu button --> Advanced --> Wi-fi sleep policy --> When screen turns off.

Try to reboot. Usually that helps. Quite a few people having the same problem but apparently no one cares. :) Spare parts shows nothing unusual apart from dialer keeps phone awake sometimes.

In my situation it's also Email app which keeps phone awake. It's really annoying :/ Restart helps until first use of email app. But you are right, looks like no one cares.

No reason why SS3 and SS4 should be any different. Like for like. And how are you deploying the O/C, if at all? You seem to have completely omitted any real detail.

How many normal-use battery cycles have you done, and did you wipe the battery stats between ROMs?

"User" troubles are very common... I have had over 900 downloads of SS4's derivative ROMs and not one single complaint about battery life, so.... why you?

Not sure the "don't care" crap would illicit any real response btw... all of the providers on here dedicate their own time and money to producing builds for all to use for free. Half-baked, misinformed, knee-jerk whining isn't likely to encourage much else, is it? Why not try to contribute yourselves instead of kid-like carping? Grow up ffs.

Battery life is very good in general BUT only if dialer doesn't prevent phone from sleeping.

I don't overlock. I did a full wipe. I recalibrated the battery. I did everything that I could think of.

I tried both smart dialer and AOSP one. I tried RLS3 and RLS4. Nothing helped.

This morning I just used the radio and poweramp nothing else and still had an issue with dialer.

Last night I installed AOSP dialer. I just rebooted after CW installed the zip and did not use my phone. I checked half an hour later and dialer kept phone awake since the phone was on.

BTW during the weekends while I don't really use my phone I have no issues.

Apparently early FLB froyo roms had the same problem. Many HTC phone suffers from this weird dialer wakelock.

Also there was a similar problem with early Cyanogenmod 7 nightlies on HTC but it was FIXED so there's a solution for this I'm sure.

I really like SS as it is a very stable and fast rom but this dialer wakelock issue us very disappointing.

I always do full wipe. I don't overclock. I re-calibrated battery. I just use as it comes for few days. I've had similar problems with FLB.

Some people have got same problems but I'm not sure do they check Spare Parts > Partial Wake to check what keeps phone awake.

In my situation is Dialer and Email app. And as someone mentioned before there is some security issues with Email app which pop-ups when you reconnect to WiFi.

I had this when trying RLS4b.

AOSP dialler, full wipe, cleared cache/dalvik

Dialler was keeping the phone awake for 50% of the time, useless.

I just noticed that Dialer is on the top on network usage list as well.

Can you please check in Spare Parts? Maybe it has something to do with wake lock and battery drain.

I've gone back to FLB r6 so I can't check that I'm afraid.

In "Spare Parts > Network Usage" on the top I've got process called "0" then "Dialer" and then "1010" all of them with a huge usage.

It seems my Blade (GEN1) died. First I was using Froyo FLB R9 for few weeks (without any problems). Then I upgraded to Swedish Spring RLS4b using Recovery manager.

Flashing went just fine, no problems there. And yes, I did factory reset afterwards. After a few hours of use I noticed that back of my phone got REALLY HOT (above the battery).

I had enabled WiFi, 3G, BT, GPS and phone was hooked to the AC charger.

All I did just install apps from Android market and surfed the web using WiFi. After a while it started to crash. I took battery out and let the phone cool down for an hour.

After I put battery and booted my phone, nothing happened. Phone just hang on the splash screen.

Fastboot works just fine but even booting to Clockworkmod recovery manager is kinda difficult. Sometimes phone runs into some weird error messages and I'm unable to flash another firmware.

After a few tries (rebooting and trying again) it works sometimes. My guess is that something is broken physically and it's not a software problem. Finally managed to recover stock firmware using clockworkmod recover + fastboot.

Gonna try RMA this phone.

I just disabled "use wireless network location" and "0" came first on network usage list but I had to reboot to stop battery drain and now it is Dialer on top again. Really weird.

Maybe we should install CM7 instead. :)

When someone asked about excessive battery usage on partial sleeps I replied...

It might seem strange but I can assure you that when I was on GEN 1 on my B08 San Fran I always got huge Dialler issues under partial wake usage. I even posted about them. I have not got a clue as to why this would happen but since I then changed my phone to GEN 2 it now no longer occurs.

I do not know if this is typical or can be repeated by those having the same issue with a GEN 1 phone but I'm so glad that it no longer occurs for me.

I am now on 38% battery with 4 days and 5 hours usage. For me Dialler is just showing 32mins usage in all that time. Prior to changing to GEN 2 it would have been measured in hours of usage and I would have not have got to over 4 days of use either from one charge.

As I have noted I have not got a clue why the difference has occurred when I changed from GEN 1 and whether it is coincidence or not I am happy that the Dialler is no longer a problem for me.

When I went back from the Windows flashed GEN 2 to GEN 1 the Dialler started to be an issue again. When I then TPT'd the phone to GEN 2 it then stopped.!

edit: After six days and five hours usage, just phone calls and texts, I then charged my phone as it had got down to 18% charge. The dialler had shown 36 mins usage under the partial wakes, which is very good.

I'm running RLS5 on a Gen1 phone with AOSP dialer, and dialer keeps the phone in partial wake about 40% of the time, according to Spare Parts.

I updated from JJ to get rid of problems with the battery draining 40-60% over night. Now I find the same thing here.

DrEzkimo, what's been your experience since the Gen2 update?

Finally, I thought it was just my phone, I've recalibrated my battery 5 times now, and I'm on SS RLS4B, and my battery would last rediculously short amounts of time without me doing anything!

I posted earlier about same battery drain caused mainly by dialer. Just upgraded to Gen2 and recalibrated the battery. I had no dialer wakelock issues in last two days. So far so good. I will report back.

I guess I'll try upgrading to GEN 2 then. Recalibrating the battery didn't help in my case.

I should say I'm using the phone in a 3G-only network (Hutchison 3) -- is that a reason for the dialer to use more battery?

Glad that it helped.

As I do not understand why changing the phone from GEN 1 to GEN 2 would have such benefits it will remain a mystery, for now anyway.

I am pleased that the result was not just isolated to my phone and hopefully if others are experiencing the same issue with the dialler, and they are on GEN 1, it might also work for them if they wish to change to GEN 2 u7sing the TPT method.

No dialer wakelock issues but this morning I noticed that battery drain was quite significant while phone was sleeping. There's nothing suspicious in SpareParts. Just checked android battery stats and Cell Standby is very high (43%) It used to be lot smaller. Very weird.
