Guest the_fox Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 I'm still unsure. I currently have a gen1 with the touchscreen problem in custom roms. I've read about 1 or 2 people that changed to gen2 and didn't have the TS problems anymore, but I'm still not convinced it'll work. So, if I upgrade and have TS problems I won't be able to restore my working stock-backup and so I'll be badword :)
Guest mELIANTE Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Yes, and I will as soon as CM7 goes Gen2.
Guest JimJam707 Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 I will if we have to too continue using CM7, but TomG isn't too sure about it :/
Guest iKrautDroid Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 It fixes the multitouch problems? Cool! Vut as long as the accelerometer isnt working in cm7 im staying away from it. Im still gen1, and i guess ill stay that way for a while.
Guest JayGB1982 Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 (edited) I will if we have to too continue using CM7, but TomG isn't too sure about it :/ What do you mean by that last part? EDIT: Yeah I'll prob do the Gen2 convert this week Edited April 11, 2011 by JayGB1982

Guest dibbles Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 I would consider doing the generation change if it meant that the future developments of CM7 were worth doing it for against that of somehow b0rking my phone and perhaps invalidating my guarantee, especially if I needed to return it to a stock 2.1 to send it off for repairs etc... I have read about some issues with the Gen 2 phones (or kernel used) and a GPS issue ( http://android.modaco.com/index.php?s=&...t&p=1664143 ). Not sure how common they are but after completing the bug report for the GPS issue with CM7 I'm very happy now to have a functioning GPS which does not switch off my phone. Until it gets to a point where CM7 is only for Gen 2 phones and there are meaningful differences between what we have now with the release of 7.0.0 I am quite content with keeping things as they are.
Guest Swimmerboy Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 yes, and I did Me too - not noticed any issues thus far, but haven't noticed any obvious improvements with day-day use.
Guest Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 (edited) Already done :) No problems in well over a week of use... liking Kallt_Kaffe's 128mb layout too not sure if it is coincidence since going to SS4b too... but friends have stopped complaining of bad quality audio in calls I make too Edited April 11, 2011 by Guest
Guest shadowninty Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Yeah, guess I'll upgrade next weekend I also desperately need an excuse to wipe :)

Im still gen1, and i guess ill stay that way for a while. It doesnt fix multi-touch problems, thats the boards fault. It apparently fixes touchscreen issues.
Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Its just a more "permanent" change to the phone - its irreversible. I'll upgrade after its been going for a while... Purely for CM7 I'm not so sure about how the signal bands will effect me.
Guest Benti77 Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 In future maybe i'll pass to gen 2, but at the moment I'm happy with jj9 without overclock etc etc :) Stable, responsive, excellent umts connection and good battery consumption. At the end in a phone what else I need? :)
Guest admanirv Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Go to Australia soon, so may need the extra bands there. Also the gen2 update is going to happen sooner or later and I'd rather stay ontop of the updates - so prolonging the inevitable really.
Guest MDCFan Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 (edited) From http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...-windows-only/: Gen2 disadvantages: * can't use tpt method. * cant use fastboot unless by ADB. TPT and fastboot really helps to "unbrick" phone after messing too much. Does anybody know if "download" mode works on gen2 phones? That one where you have to hold volume up and down buttons and then plug your phone and it gets recognized as a com port. Edited April 11, 2011 by MDCFan
Guest jayhix Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 interesting 3 way split in the results hmm
Guest Nick Rhodes Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 Also the Gen2 upgrade requires Windows which is a big minus for a number. Ideal partition layout seems to be in a state of flux. And its not reliably reversible. I want to see more official Gen2 phones to see if further changes or if Gen2 will be universal. I will upgrade on basis of ROM improvements/requirements, which at the moment there are none over gen 1 phones. Who knows, may end up with a newer/better ROM that targets Gen1 only phones e.g. from Orange (most likely not though :)). Cheers, Nick.
Guest simonsays1 Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 I've already upgraded and everything seems to work fine.
Guest Picazsoo Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 Lack of TPT for GEN2 is a dealbreaker.
Guest Swimmerboy Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 Lack of TPT for GEN2 is a dealbreaker. Why so? Got on fine for years before the TPT method of installing ROMs was here. I don't understand why this is a dealbreaker?
