Dears,

I just saw a thread on a forum indicating that CM7 final has been released.

Will CM7 work with Blade GEN2 (ZTE Blade with Softbank 3Z) ? Please if somebody can help on this as I am new and need to know the exact steps to update S/W o CM7 starting from rooting the phone.

Thanks

No, the current CM7 will NOT work with a Gen2, future versions, otoh, will ONLY work on Gen2s.

There are a number of threads dedicated to this issue already.

you can get cm7 to work on gen2 blades. search the forum for the thread which tells you how to port the current gen1 cm7 onto gen2 phones.

quite a few people have done this so the method does work, so don't worry about it screwing up.

Yup, just follow the instructions and it works a treat :)

No, this is untrue. Once again, as on another thread I've encountered you on, you show your ignorance.

There's a converter that is free to download on the main "ZTE Blade ROMs & ROM Customisation" page on this site, called something like "CM7 on Gen2 Blade". I've upgraded my blade to a Gen2, and now get much better signal, and after following the upgrade steps I flashed this file to get my existing CyanogenMod install to work, but it should also work on new installs.

CM7 can be run on GEN2 device using the KK's Gen2 converter. I tried it and it work like a charm.

Dear Faisal,

Thanks for the info. I had the same from KK, but I don't know the real procedure. I read several threads about routing, clockwork, recovery and update but not sure about the easiest and best way of upgrading to CM7 stable. The set I have came from China (China Unicom), GEN2 with Softbank 003Z and Froyo 2.2 .

Appreciate your help. Thanks.

See the sticky "[GUIDE] How to Install a Custom ROM on the ZTE u-v880 or [GEN2] device" thread for general info on "How to Install a Custom ROM on the ZTE u-v880 or [GEN2] device" :) . It's a good, straight forward guide which will hopefully get you started. I can also recommend Swedish Spring for a rom as the CM7 stable really isn't that stable, atleast with gen2. I tried CM7 for a while but came back to Swedish Spring untill the problems I had will get fixed.

Could you please elaborate on the bold part please as I would consider this change to Gen 2 as future development would be for that series only. But I was not aware that as it is there might be implications with using it now over and above that of Gen 1 phones.

It can

There are a few caveats though

1. Won't fit onto 128MB /system unless you make some space first.

2. Its not really CM7 unless you use the build of Tom_G's kernel.

(CM7 will be on gen2 by the weekend anyway).

I'm really not sure I understand what you're saying (english is not my native lang..) but to cut it short, since I was running CM7 on a GEN2 phone, I've got nothing official to say about it. I had a few problems/annoyancies with it that made me come back to SS4. Mainly the gps reboots. Now, whether these things are only gen2 specific, I can't tell for sure, but atleast the gps reboots should be fixed in official (gen1) CM7.

I guess what I was trying to say was that if it's the first time one is flashing a custom rom, I'd go for SS (and did), atleast it's more stable in my experience and this way I can also tell a difference between hw and sw issues if any would still occure.

Thanks for your reply. Having just started to look at the Gen 1 to Gen 2 conversion process I was not aware of the differences, at this stage, of the CM7 builds. I use the GPS function enough on my blade to now appreciate that it does not turn off when I stop using it. I will await and see how the nightlies progress when they are officially built to support the Gen 2 phones and then make a choice from there to change or not.
