moving on from the blade. galaxy s or htc desire?

The blade's my 1st smart phone and i think its great ( i'll be keeping it) loved trying new roms etc on it, but fancy something a little better, dont want a contract as i get all my needs with giffgaff. Now with the galaxys2 coming out soon, im hoping the price of the s1 drops a little, but im stuck between that and the htc desire.

your thoughts and experiences regarding the galaxy s and the htc desire :)

What about Samsung Galaxy Ace? or Motorola Defy?

The Ace is a worse version of the galaxy s. Why would you consider it when you can get the better specced one?

I would personally go for the galaxy s. Bigger screen,front facing camera. My choice for sure.

I, personally would go for the Desire, because I love HTC Sense and am not a huge fan of the Samsung Galaxy S layout (MIUI I think it's referred as), the HTC Desire, I would probably say is maybe abit old COMPARED to phones of the likes of Galaxy S etc.. BUT, it's definitely still holding it's own as it still matches the hardware specs and higher of those of the lower and mid-range phones on the market nowadays.

So, if you're looking for fancy, show off-y, look what I got style phone, the Galaxy S is probably for you, whereas if you're looking for a phone that does what you need but doesn't go overboard with features not alot of people use, HTC Desire would be good.

Phones4U are doing a good deal on HTC Desire, 250 PAYG with T-mobile, it's 20 credit as well, with other networks I'm not sure, I imagine you'd have to use ebay or something to get a Galaxy S at that price.

Desire would be my choice still the best android device for the price avialable second hand about £230 "Mint CEX" , development still going strong and the build quality is awesome, the Captivate/Galaxy S has had bad press regards build quality..

The Moto Defy doesn't have much dev and also some custom ROMs are non downgradable as there bootloader is pretty locked "as far as can tell via the research when looking into upgrading myself"

The Ace is low spec low rez etc.

My dad has a branded Galaxy S from Austrian operator A1. It is a disaster because he is stuck with Samsung's 2.2 release which is full of bugs. There is 2.2.1 and 2.3 but none has made it to the A1 branding yet. So much on the topic of frequent updates, etc., it depends very much on your situation. My dad's phone is actually working worse than my Blade, but it is great hardware (display, etc.)

If you are open for modding the Galaxy S should be great though. In various forums I saw lots of people who love it, most of them using it with custom roms though (or installing official roms that are not available for their provider using ODIN, etc.)

I would think nowadays (if you can wait for a lil while) the choice would be more between the S2 and the HTC Sensation ?

At least it is for me, still undecided, but tending towards the Sensation atm :)

Galaxy S is a really nice phone, only thing missing from the complete package IMO is the lack of a flash on the camera. Aside from that you've got a very active dev community and a really impressive bit of hardware. It'd get my vote over the Desire anyday.
