Guest mamoulian Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Still trying to find the ideal keyboard. So far I've got: Official Asus keyboard: annoying to enter symbols including @ (no long-press or shift mode on numbers), predictive stuff mostly annoying, swype nice but laborious to use given the size of the screen, Android keyboard: no numbers row, dragging up from the top row doesn't pop up extra rows like it does on the Android phone keyboard, Tablet Keyboard free: Nicest so far - has a 'split' mode allowing dual thumb use in portrait/landscape. Needs long-press options, smileys. Anyone know of a keyboard that provides arrow (cursor) keys, for navigating text fields and use in ConnectBot and VNC?

Thumb Keyboard does offer that along with a variety of different layouts (both standard and split) with cursor keys and the ability to specify different layouts for Portait and lanscape more. By far the best tablet keyboard I've tried so far but it is a commercial app costing €1.32. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.b...e=search_result Edited April 13, 2011 by Matchstick

Oh, hang on I still have the vega, I could pull the latest version off that and rebuild and resign... better idea

Guest MaximumFish Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 +1 here for thumb keyboard.. loving it :) Another +1 for thumb keyboard. I had to spend a while setting it up for my tastes, but after that it's proved excellent. Very easy to type quickly. If anyone wants to give my settings a go, here's what I did: - Supress full screen mode in landscape - Forced both landscape and portrait keyboards to be "standard" layout - Set the key height for both to 60% (leave spacebar and cursor rows at 100%) That gives me the ideal combination of keys big enough to type quickly on, but with a good chunk of the screen still visible while doing so. The only oddity is that you get no cursor keys in landscape mode, but it's not that big a deal for me.
Guest mimminito Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 (edited) Swift Key's Tablet edition is damn awesome. By far going to be the best for Android Tablets I think. Its in beta right now, and only available if you are a SwiftKey VIP member. Ill post up some screens of what it looks like. Its so smooth, typing is great on it. Really fluid. Otherwise I think the Thumb Keybord just took what SwiftKey and released it asap to get some sales :) Here you go: SwiftKey 1 SwiftKey 2 SwiftKey 3 Edited April 14, 2011 by mimminito
