possible to root desire hd OTW1.75 without attaching it to the PC?

The mini usb socket in my phone is completely broken. Can't charge it the regular way and need to remove batt from phone and stick in a table charger.

I want to root my phone, preferably permanent. I think that I get how its done, either use one of the onetouch varieties or the other more complicated methods. Think I have to Nand unlock it to.

Is it possible to do this without the USB cable? When updating to 2.2.1, that was no problem, but rooting is different.

If u know, please help :)
