Guest teh_buzzard Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 I need to make a 3 hour journey and need navigation. Does anyone have any tips to increase my battery life as currently on the Cyanogenmod 7 I only get an hour and a half with GPS. Would it be worth me getting an offline navigation program? Thanks
Guest dibbles Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 why don't you get a in car charger...? A usb type which plugs into your cars 12v socket and a USB to USB micro lead will do. I have just done the same and use a windshield mount that I bought from eBay and it works a treat. Even an offline application still uses the battery quite a bit.
Guest KACE_231 Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 You might be able to get a cable that can use the car's battery to power the Blade (via micro usb port)
Guest DannyDanny Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 Using an offline navigation wont help battery tooo much. Try using your blade at a lower brightness or get a charger. (or a battery pack..)
Guest teh_buzzard Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 (edited) I'm doing the journey on a motorbike so no 12 volt plug. I'll try turning down the brightness as I had it on full last time Edited April 15, 2011 by teh_buzzard
Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 (edited) Long press on your home screen and put the "power control" widget on it. Just click ok if a config comes up. Make sure everything except gps and data transfer are off, should save some batter life. And If you are using offline navigation you could even put your phone in aeroplane mode. Use the battery calibraytion tip aswell: and use a task killer to kill all your tasks before navigating. Also change your cpu settings by going settings>cyanogenmod settings>performance>cpu and you could try using the "powersave govenor" - though it may make things laggy. You could certainly set your min value to 128mhz (or whatever the lowest is) If more complicated, arguably invalid, but you could increase your VM heap to 64mb (I have it like this, everything is fast and stable) Just download blade buddy from the market and manually change the vm heapsize value to 64m (im not too sure about what the other two do) There you go: Do as many of these as possible :) Edited April 15, 2011 by Mushroom_Lord
Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 (edited) And google navigation works without a data conection: just connect to wifi and plan your journey before you start: Also try finding and using the alternate routes option - it may help. If even re-routes when you have left its pre-programmed route - without data connection... And sorry, just realised, you'll want to be using gps, so make sure its left on regardless - no aeroplane mode... Was I of any help - I like to know when I've been appreciated :) Edited April 15, 2011 by Mushroom_Lord
Guest teh_buzzard Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 Thanks man, great help! I'll be underclocking and turning off my data that sounds like it should keep my blade alive long enough.
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted April 16, 2011 Report Posted April 16, 2011 I'm doing the journey on a motorbike so no 12 volt plug. I'll try turning down the brightness as I had it on full last time there are solar chargers you could use :)
Guest Casterina Posted April 16, 2011 Report Posted April 16, 2011 reduce your brightness to minimum, close any other applications you may in the background.. they will consume your battery.
Guest Bonbergol Posted April 16, 2011 Report Posted April 16, 2011 whats about a spare battery or a battery recharging pack?
