Guest subbyhasan Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 Wondering what these things are? I know is the equivalent to jailbreaking but I don't know what they are What is froyo? (I have heard people talking about it) And also, where can I get any andriod app from and then where do I put them after downloading Thanks greatly in advance for any help :)
Guest nvkid909 Posted April 17, 2011 Report Posted April 17, 2011 Froyo is firmware between Eclair & Gingerbread. Some apps / tweaks / hacks need root, same as jailbreak. Apps are in the market in your phone. You need to be on Froyo or above to move them to SD card (there's an app for that :) ). Flashing is using a PC software to install firmware* on your phone, useful if you bricked it or are too impatient to wait for the updates. You can install a recovery system on rooted phone which will let you install a firmware* (recovery or nandroid backup) off your SD card. You could also back up your firmware on that card. First look in these forums & XDA developers & go straight to the sections covering specifically your model of phone. There are tutorials near the top telling you how & what to download. Beware though some of the info may be months out of date so do alot of reading before you dive in or you risk bricking your device (& lose your warranty). *you can do parts of firmware if your're just trying to change part but this is slightly more technical, oh & watch out with latest firmwares they might not have been cracked yet (locked bootloaders, etc etc... so READ!!!! :) )
Guest DeathbyDonut Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 Hi , I'm a complete techy idiot and I've just bought the blade :0) I've managed to get it unlocked and connect it to the interenet , just. Took me 20 mins to work how to lock the keypad :0) Anyway ( even tho' I dont understand what 'root' or 'flash' means , and thats AFTER reading the explanations :0) ) , I wanted to try and remove the Orange stuff as a first task. I read the 'simple' thread and thought I'd have a go but I have a few issues. 1. Do I get the files on my pc? 2. Where and how do I put them on my phone? 3. When I clicked the link to google docs there was nothing there , do I have to have a google account? Think that will do for starters , meanwhile I'll put my sim back in my nokia 1100 , a phone i understand :0) Cheers & thnx for any help. DbD
Guest nvkid909 Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 What is it exactly that you're trying to do? The phone should work straight out the box. All of the above regards hacking your phone, so you kinda need a reason to do that in the first place. My phone was freezing & lagging to the point of annoyance so I managed to update it BEFORE the official release & now I'm happier. Other reasons for doing this may just be pure geekiness I'm afraid! If you have a google phone then yeah, it's a good idea to have a gmail address.
