Optimizing RAM on A1?

Hi,

I'm frustrated by the amount of free RAM I have on the A1 256mb. Even devices with less total RAM seems to have more free RAM.

I'm now running a fresh T&L, without anything installed. What causes this? Is it the older kernel version? Could we create a newer kernel? Could we hack it? (like on Tmobile G1, 10mb hack) I've also readed that there are memory leaks on acer phones, is this true and can it be fixed? For Liquid E users it isn't a problem but A1 has not much free memory. Somehow I really miss performance tweaks on our liquids like on other phones.

i'm happy with CM 7.0.0 + 256Mb swap

Problem is that there's no bug-free (prox sensor or camcoder doesn't matter) ROM with good battery life that enables swap or compcache, or am I wrong? CM6 has battery problems, CM7 no autobrightness, and the chocolate kernel for Acer based ROMs has bad battery usage. And swap is bad for the SD card, or doens't it really matter?

There are kernel built with acer sources for T&L

CM7 no autobrightness.

it has autobrightness, prox can be disabled, we can use "videocam illusion" as camcoder and "multimount sd card" to solve sd card problems.

it really doesnt matter - sd card has too much life for us even if we will use swap.

I use T&L and have 10% free Ram, but I do"t feel the lack of memmory.

You could also tweak the Autokiller settings using, for example, Autokiller Memory Optimizer. Though this won't magically create more RAM, it'll kill unneeded background applications faster (it will start killing applications even at higher amounts of free RAM). This could have some side effects, however, as some applications need to be running idle in the background in order to work, and higher settings on killing background apps will undermine them (for example, my automatic WiFi toggling app was like this).

Got performance problems when had 75+ applications.

Tryed Swap partition 256mb with t&l and ritchen kernel also got performance lags. (i also use 512ext2 apps2sd)

My solution is Autokiller Memory Optimizer for now too. It was enough for me to set moderate preset to run everything smooth as it was like "fresh flashed" phone.
