I purchased a Kingston 8GB Micro SD HC - Class 4 card to replace the 2GB card that came with the San Francisco. Every time I tried to use the card however I would get a message saying "Damaged SD card" or "Preparing SD card" and "Removed SD card", also some times I would succeed in being able to mount and or browse the SD card but then it would either stop or the phone would shut down.

I've tried formatting the card with PartitonWizzard5 and SDFormatter also moving all of my files from the previous (still working) card to the new card but with no success.

I've probably made a mistake somewhere along the line but I don’t know enough about phones to know where. I've browsed many other topics with similar problems to me and have tried almost all of the ways to fix the problems that were posted but haven’t succeeded. It may be obvious that I don’t know to much about what I’m doing but I’m competent in following guides. I read the common problems sticky and I hope that my card isn't damaged.

I have the MoDaCo Custom Froyo ROM (r12) installed (the one recommended for the indecisive in the "How to Install a Custom ROM" guide).

I hope someone will be able to help me with my problem. Thank you.

Lots of blades seem to have problems with Kingston cards, unfortunately. I have the exact same card, that was in my previous tocco lite (-.-) - but for me it works fine.

Unfortunately its a bit hit and miss if your phone supports it.

Did you have this problem on the stock ROM? - I have a feeling cards work better on that....

If not try a different ROM. Unfortunately, where a working SD card is your current focus, I am unsure of what to recommend.

Probably FLB Froyo r11b or Swedish Spring r4 - They are the most stable Froyo's we have.

Cm7 probably completely replaces all the drivers etc related to the SD card, as it is not based on an official Froyo. If the aboce don't work, you could try Cm7.

Though, sadly, I think it is all down to hardware. Some blades just don't like Kingston cards - and some don't seem to like SDHC at all.

Ile try what you've suggested. While I do so could you recommend some cards that do work or send me a link to a topic that lists them? Please and thank you.

I think Sandisk 8gb cards work - and there is a search button (hard to find, I know) across the header bar of every page.

yer sandisk seem to be alright. I've got 2 sandisks from play.com and they both work perfectly.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that card should work for you

I’m probably speaking nonsense but when looking at the properties of the old card and the 2GB SanDisk card that my Dad uses (Which works with my SF) I found that they were both "FAT" when the 8GB Kingston was "FAT32". If there was a way to convert the Kingston to "FAT" would it work? If so what program can I download to do that?

Tried Formatting Via PC? Or Via the phone it's self? There must be a app on the market to check and format SDcards?

yer, before throwing away try:

1) format on phone

2) format in clockwork

3) format in another android phone (this does sometimes work)

4) clean contacts and reinsert

and no, fat32 is fine.

i always get this 8gb sandisk from play. always worked flawlessly

http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4-/3564...urlrefer=search

as a plus point, it's also very cheap atm.

I have already tried 1 to 4 with no success. But haris.b's post worries me. Is there any way to see if MY SF can handle a Micro SD card that is 8GB or larger (other than testing with multiple cards)?

sorry man but that's my case :) i tried everything but litteraly everything.. the only thing that worked was formatting on other phone - xperia x10, but it worked only until i connected the phone to transfer files from pc. after transfering 1/3 of the file transfer stops and the same thing happens.. im not searching for the solution anymore i will simply buy 16 gb sd card and necessarily test it first :)

ps. its not always 'sd card damaged' - sometimes is 'blank sd card or unsupported format' or the phone can not mount sd card at all.

I don’t think I will be buying any new cards unless I’m certain they will work on the phone. Ile just lurk the forums until the problem is fixed or someone makes a list of definitely compatible Micro SD cards.

I took the plunge and purchased a 16GB Sandisk Class 4 Micro SD Card from Play.com and it works like a dream. :)
