Guest Albedo39 Posted April 16, 2011 Report Posted April 16, 2011 I got my Vega about a week ago and have upgraded to the latest firmware, and have installed the r8 modaco upgrade, and ADW Launcher EX, and all is working well. I have some blu-ray films which include a digital copy that can be copied to a portable device which I've done, but I can't get them to play for some reason. I've tried to play it though Real player and various other players but still no joy. Anyone know which player will play these films?

As far is 1080p go's the vega is not capable of playing it, the vega can only play up to 720p(though i have yet to see that in action...) your best bet atm if you want to play dvd quality movies without a hitch (looping of sound video etc) is vPlayer the latest version. It has added support for the Tegra 2 chipset/gpu/cpu (w/e i duno what its called lol gpu?) that the vega contain's. So the bottom line is that you cant play HD content 'yet'. Mebay you should try experimenting with ubuntu on the vega, i heard that has support for tegra 2... -Anton

Nvidia conveniently fails to mention on advertising but it is limited to a 1080p baseline profile that most content is never released in. I am hoping the new dual core samsung tablets arent tegra 2 as even their older 7" tab had support for 1080p high profile playback (not sure around 10 mb's, still looks decent on a 1080p screen) but maybe next year before an arm based tablet comes close for 1080p bluray plaayback. Check out xoom xda forum for transcoding into a more tegra freindly video format.

Guest Albedo39 Posted April 21, 2011 Report Posted April 21, 2011 The files are 720 x 360 and in the Windows Media WMV format. I have other files in this format and they work fine on the Vega. I've tried Rock Player and they don't play in that either.

I can't be the only one who's having this problem!? :) A lot of blu-ray films now include a digital copy of the film so you can play them on a portable device, my brother has an ipad, and they work fine on there. I've looked at some other forums and someone mentioned something about DRM (digital rights management) which prevents these digital copies from working on Android, so I guess that must be the issue......until some bright spark finds a way around this. This is what one of the posters said.... "At present Android doesn't support any DRM that I am aware of. Linux itself is very limited in its support of DRM so it is likely that Android won't support any more than Linux does. There are converters available that will authorize the DRM stream and capture the output but they are illegal in the US and take a very long time to convert due to capturing a stream."
