Guest pompey007 Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 Hi, I am a novice so will try and use the correct terminology so that I can get the correct help! I have an advent vega onto which I installed the Modaco r8 ROM and it has been working fine. However yesterday I just have a blank dark screen and I cannot boot it up/start it. I have searched through the forum and just need to clarify the following: Do i have to do a reset as per myadventvega and get back to factory settings? and from there reinstall r8 to get back to where I need to be. Is there anything else that you need to know (eg. I have read about the different types of blank screen!) Many thanks
Guest Minimonkey Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 (edited) Just in case try holding the power button down for about 6 seconds to make sure it is properly off then try power back on again. If that doesn't work just follow the guide on myadventvega and then put r8 back on. Edited April 18, 2011 by Minimonkey

(presumably now properly off), however when I try and power back on it just goes greyish as before! Is that expected? So presumably will go need to go down myadventvega route. Thanks
Guest Minimonkey Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 (edited) Sounds like you will have to go down the myadventvega route. Shouldn't take long to be back on r8 :) Also have a look at Vega tools, should make things easier. http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...ega-tools-v3-0/ Edited April 18, 2011 by Minimonkey

Thanks a) If you have a clockworkmod backup, you can restore it. :) If not, you may as well restore using 1.09. c) If you're really opposed to (:), I can find you something to fix it. Zeb

Zeb The faces are B ) . That aside - don't flash 1.09. I'll make something for you now that'll recover it (99% of the time, based on the fact that your problem is what I think). Gimme about 20 mins or so for a download (slow internet -.-). If you dont want to wait for me to restore it (to where it is now), just flash 1.09 Zeb
Guest Zebrahead Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 Download slower than I thought - another 30 and I'll have it *sigh* The most annoying part is I have these things on another computer 'cept it isn't with me right now! Zeb

I have a bit of an idea as to what I am doing but need it easily explained!!! Presumably this is a "common" issue?
Guest Minimonkey Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 Looks like there is a blank screen of death fix in Vega tools, not tried it though.

I trust VegaTools should fix it although I've never used it myself - I gather it's a decent tool and it should be fairly simple to follow. My download failed (FML).... If anyone has r8 downloaded and could upload the slave boot.img to dropbox to save my from downloading the whole zip, I'd be thankful ^^ Zeb

Guest Zebrahead Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 Here you go - This should work. Follow the instructions on the myadventvega website - as if you were restoring stock. Instead of running the stock installer, run this instead :) As always, use at own risk. It's not tested as I dont currently have a windows machine, but it's a simple translation of something that works under linux so I have every faith in it working ^^ Zeb ^^ Too large to attach, so here it is : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22432796/BSODFix.exe

Guest Zebrahead Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 I've been de-windowsed! I can't test :) (May have to install windows myself sometime, I can't test any windows things -.-') You'll have to let me know if it's ok ^^ Zeb

Have power cable in, USB cable connected. Have tried BACK [2 secs], POWER [2 secs] and BACK but do not appear to be able to get PC to recognise? Is there a trick to it and how will I know it has worked, presumably pc recognises vega?

It's an art :) If you've not done it before, it may take a few tries, it's very precise - half a second out and it won't go into the right mode. It'll work if you try a couple of times ^^ Zeb

Guest Zebrahead Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 OK, I will keep trying! How will I know it has worked...will the PC or vega do something? You should get a command prompt pop up on the PC, it will then patch boot partition on your VEGA (it'll say something like that on the command prompt). The VEGA should display a kinda "on-but-black" screen, with some white text containing nvflash. But that's only once it's running. As for telling when it's plugged in properly? Just keep trying to do it, plug it in, and running this. The command prompt should say device not found if it's not right. Keep trying until it is ^^ Zeb

Guest clive_j Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 (edited) OK, I will keep trying! How will I know it has worked...will the PC or vega do something? I struggled to do this the other night but a post I was reading said the power light should be blinking. It wasn#t so I removed the power and then replaced it and the next time the key sequence worked. Is there any chance that the charging condition is significant or was it just a coincidence? Personally I think that it's worth trying to remove the charger if you're having problems. CJ PS To answer your question it should be obvious the USB ding-dong is probably the first thing you'll notice Edited April 18, 2011 by clive_j

Guest peter a Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 OK, I will keep trying! How will I know it has worked...will the PC or vega do something? Try this :- Press power very long, something like 20 or 30 seconds. (on mine backlight went on, but no boot, due to defect ROM) Press power again until backlight is off. Then try to go to (I think its called Debug mode) with the 2sec back+2sec power then release power wth still holding back The only way I`ve found is have "device manager" open and check for the driver poping up. I THINK ... if you get it right a blue led comes up which is hard to see becuase it`s hidden in side the case near the camera.
