What's the best tablet around at the moment?

I don't mean the dearest, i mean one that has no problem with Flash, Ideally is 10" minimum of Android 2.2 and ideally has support from here with custom roms

oh It has to be available now as well

Hi mate,

What you described there fits the criteria of the extremely budgetable Advent Vega :)

Best Android Tablet you are ever going to purchase and they're so many roms you can use to customise it. You can even overclock the CPU to a massive 1.4 GHZ which is faster then the most expensive tablets out on the market right now. It's 200 quid from Currys or PC World.

Trust me mate, you won't regret it. Just because it's 200 quid doesn't mean in the slightest it's not any good. It's the best tablet on the market right now. :)

Hi :)

You firstly ask for the best, but then ask for a budget model. I cannot speak for budget models, as I don't make a habit of researching budget tablets, as I feel that something like this is worth paying the extra for; it's simply not worth the corner cutting, to get a better experience.

1/ "Best"? Motorola Xoom - absolutely no contest:

2/ I'm sure someone else will be able to help you out with custom ROMs.

The choice is yours - cheap and "it will do", (and it likely will) or stump up the dough and get a better experience. Don't pay any attention whatsoever to anyone that tells you that, just because a CPU is faster, that's a reason to get X budget model over slightly lower clocked (but far better) top of the range model; they're talking out of their hat.

However, read the summary page of the review for the Advent Vega, here: Advent Vega review - last page hmmm...

I hope you find what you need :(

PS: Advent are DSG Group's own, plasticky budget brand. Think "Fiat of computers" :)

lol that was his question. Starting from the top :) Not the dearest (xoom's out of the question) No problem with Flash (Vega and xoom) 10 inch screen (Vega and xoom) Minimum of Android 2.2 (Vega and xoom) Support here with custom Roms (Vega has much more Roms then the xoom does)

He asked for a tablet that's not dear, but can do all that. And for the details he supplied he doesn't need to go all out on a xoom. When everything he wants he can get with the Vega. I'm just saying :)

Since the Techradar review ignores the existence of MoDaCo and the rest of Android sites and only centers in what you have out of the box, the Techradar review does not give an accurate picture of the Vega. The Vega is worshipfully devoted to people who will tinker with it and thus it'd be useless to add anything else software-wise (which is a main complaint of the reviewer, aside of the buttons). To keep that aspect out of the review is misleading.

Thanks for the info and suggestions, I'll definitely look into the Vega, I didn't realise it was so good

I've just bought a Vega, and after flashing it, it's great. The stock software isn't amazing, with no marketplace, but it's so easy to flash that it's not a problem. Try and have a look at one with a dark video running if you can though, as the viewing angle isn't the greatest

From what I gather Paul is quite impressed with the Asus Transformer running on honeycomb. It comes with an optional keyboard dock. Might have a wee lookie myself since the old Vaio is creaking a bit lol
