heya. So i bought a zte blade orange san fran from preypaymania just a few days ago. Awesome phone.... i want to root it now. I realised after 2- 3 days that i cant save apps to SD. And it goes a bit choppy sometimes.

anyways. so i came across a few things.

1) One friend said to use z4root. Is this good or bad?

2) I then came across this, http://orangesanfrancisco.co.uk/android/ho...isco-zte-blade/ Anyone used this?

3) What are the chances of being bricked by either of these. If cheked with mr pigfish, says i have a g1 model. Just wondering :)

4) Whats the dfiference between japan jelly fish and sweedish spring thingy. Those are the two i know

5) And what about cyanogen 7, thats what my friend told me.

oh and one more question.

I cant boot into recovery mode (unrooted). I tried to press the on button, then press and hold the volume up button, but it just get stuck on the green android man. Also i have to take out my battery, or it wont turn off. It boots normally in normal mode. But it wont boot into recovery mode. I want to create a back up of my os i have right now so that if i ever need to i can just replace the root with the unrooted and get my warranty back :)

So far the only way you can truely brick your device is if something goes wrong during the GEN1 - GEN2 update

Which you don't actually have to do yet

Imo it is probably easier to root your device using any method, install "Rom manager" rom the market, flash clockwork from the app then backup and install the final GEN1 cyanogen from that app :)

it is meant to stay on android man on vol up + power that is fastboot mode.

you need to flash a recovery image. then power + volume down will boot you into recovery where you can backup everything.

there's 0.000001% chance of 'bricking' will trying to root if you follow that guide.

jap jelly is more stable as was finished ages ago, SS still has improvements ongoing but is better.

cyanogen is 2.3 and way better. but i wouldn't advise you moving till it until you have a better understanding of android....

oh and one more thing: USE THE FRICKEN SEARCH FEATURE. THIS QUESTION HAS BEEN ASKED MANY, MANY TIMES!

oh ok, sorry about that.

So should i get swedish or japan jellyfish.

whats the difference?

So far the only way you can truely brick your device is if something goes wrong during the GEN1 - GEN2 update

what do you mean by this. You mean if my phone tries to update automatically. How do i disable this function from happening, or disable automatic firmware updates?

Thanks :)

Also - if you do manage to "brick" it so badly you can't recover it (some people believe their devices are "bricked" but they can often just flash recovery via fastboot, etc) then the chances are that Orange can't fix it either.

You can probably get a replacement - should you manage to do the Gen2 upgrade wrong.

oh ok thanks. So no chance of brick :)

one thing though. I havnt rooted or anything yet. I only got a few apps on my thing. But when i try to boot. I press and hold the on button, then i quickly hold the down button for like 5 secs. A screen with black border and white pic saying FMP .

i want to boot into recovery mode so that i can back up my original os now. This way if i ever want to get my warranty unvoided or reapplied, i can just restore a backup of the os i have right now. But i dont know exactly how to do this. I was told to use the backup manager or something.

Im really new to android.

edit: And no, im not going to upgrade to gen 1. No point really is there. I just want to be able to save apps to SD. Thats the main thing. Make it a bit faster too :).

Anyways like you said theres little chance of my phone bricking :(

You don't seem to understand :)

"Clockwork", "Clockwork recovery" or just "Recovery" is what is flashed onto your device after you have rooted it

Or if you use the fastboot method you don't have to root it before flashing the recovery

There is no "stock" ZTE recovery

If you are afraid of rooting your device before backing up then flash the recovery first via fastboot. Then you can backup and flash a custom rom

Can't you just press home when the FTM message (or whatever occurs) and a recovery appears (unusable - as things you use it for have to be signed by ZTE)

ok im even more confused now.

Basically here is what i wish to do.

I wish to back up. Then root. Then when something happens to the device and i want to send it to the manufacture from my warranty, i want to restore my original os to get warranty back.

is there no way to reapply warranty after you have rooted? what do you mean by flash? How do i get into fast bood. How do i back up.

this is so confusing :)

Gym is the bog standard recovery which is On the when you buy it, you need to install clcokwork recovery, easiest way is by booting without any volume key held and installing a app called 'rom manager', it'll prompt you to install clock work, you'll need to root it first thou.

was in the same boat as you m8 never rooted a phone in my life followed this guide and it was done in no time read through it a couple of times make sure you have everything you need and follow the youtube guide have read a few posts on here and it seems you do not have to revert your phone back to the stock rom if anything goes wrong but if you want to there is a stock rom to download http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...zte-blade-gen1/
