I'm having real problems with my OSF when accessing the internet. If connected via Wi-Fi there is no problem at all and Dolphin works a treat. To get decent Wi-Fi stabilility I use the Blade Wi-Fi Fix which also works a treat.

My problems come when using internet via 3g or high speed (the H symbol). If I manage to get high speed connection the pages load quickly but on almost every new page I get the error that there is a "data connectivity problem" with the server failing to communicate. If I clear the error the page will usually load fine, but it's irritating. If I cannot get high speed access and the phone drops to 3g each page takes an eternity to load and will usually time out numerous times before it loads. Most of the time it doesn't load. My previous phone "Samsung Soul" could only connect with 3g but was much much faster than the 3g on the OSF.

I'm now sharing the Orange and T-Mobile network, but I think this is for Call and texts only and I have the JapJellyfish 2.2 rom installed.

Any help would be apreciated.

Try Another ROM, I'd recommend Swedish Spring And Use MyBackup Root to backup everything you need.

Thanks for that. Will mybackup root backup everything like a disk image, or will if have to copy stuff back one by one?

Try 3, I found the speed pretty good...Must be cheaper than orange too...

Make sure you use "WCDMA Only" in Preferred network mode and not "GSM/WCDMA Auto". Having it as Auto (even though the 3G or H symbol appears in the tool bar) is considerably slower. I posted this observation quite a while ago on here - but no one took any notice.

You are also correct, if your network is "Orange T-mobile" or "T-mobile Orange" then you will only get 2G data at the moment. SO to get the faster speeds, make sure you are on your home network.

I don't recall seeing any bugs in the JJ thread about this.

Hi, w_m_ clarke,

I'm sure you know more about this than me, but the above advice isn't always the the best course.

I changed my "network mode" option from "GSM/WCDMA", to "WCDMA only". I did this because I found that a poor H connection was better than a good G,(edge?), or 3G, and I wanted to force the phone to this option.

After this change, when I woke the phone up at home, and it found my wi fi, I often lost the giffgaff network altogether. It seems that the phone won't always detect a weak H (HSDPA) signal, and because I'd restricted the choice to this, it couldn't find a network at all. My signal at home is poor in some parts of the house. I'm only eight miles from centre of city in a built up area, and a few yards down the road the signal strength increases dramatically.

Presumably the resources required by the wifi, leave the mobile network receptor short of something.

I've reverted to the original setting, and all working smooth again, but experimenting by forcing the H option, even when the signal is too weak for the phone to change up to it, still shows that a poor H is better than a good 3G.

So if you're in a poor signal area, it's best to be on the auto setting, at least at home.

If you know a way to keep the H option, but not lose network, I'd be interested.

BTW, I've been on JJ9 for ages, and see no reason to change, unless a later rom would fix this.

regards, zillfish

Not really any help as such but just an observation... My SanFran has good internet performance whether on WiFi or 3G(HSDPA), but my wife's one is extremely poor, we obviously live in the same house and so the only real difference is that she's on the Orange UK network with stock ROM, and mine is running JJ-RSL9 on the THREE network. Three in Essex seems to be pretty good :)

I think internet on orange is awful - I have tried three operators on the same phone : 3, Lebara (on O2 network) and Orange. Orange has by far the worst internet speed, reliability and price. Just today it chewed up about £13 of credit while I tried to download less than 40mb of data even though I purchased an add-on for 50mb of data.

In the fair usage policy it states you may not use any more than 25 mb a day (its like than with the free 100mb on dolphin, anyway, Im not sure if it applies to adds ons and other tarifs etc)

have you swapped sim cards to see if the problem is the handset or the network?

Just spotted my old post. I upgraded my ROM to CM7 and the problem was resolved. I can't recommend it highly enough.
