Guest bearded1 Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 i have a Vega bought from the web in mid december and the screen on it is horrible.. there are some posts i have put up in the past showing how it looks like 2 panels joined togeter in the middle when viewed from the top or bottom. it also suffers quite heavily from the ddouubbblleee tap issue - especially when plugged into the mains. if i were to take it to my local PC world (worcester), what do people think my chances of getting it looked at are? the touch sensitivity around some of the edges is also a little shonky or sometimes just.. missing.. i called last week to get any info on asus transformers and after getting chatting the chap told me that in december the vega line were pulled for having a fault? and were then reissued later? something like that.. so now i can help but wonder if i had one from the 'meant to be pulled' batch.. thoughts? ideas? advise? what are my chances of a swap-for-new or a screen replacement do we think? i have the box and all the gubbins still!
Guest BTatHome Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 Your a bit vague about whether you have the receipt. If you do then there is no reason why you would have any issues .... if you don't then they would be well within their rights to refuse to look at it without a charge.

The quality control on the advents seem patchy. I had one with a speaker problem (the left speaker on the rear was crackling) left it in Clockwork recovery and went for a coffee. Got back from the Coffee store (20 mins) and there was a burning smell from the speaker!! Tried the sound and the speaker was now dead! can you pop your photos up or a link about the split screen? The returns process was simple for me. I ordered through Currys online called to report the fault told I had a choice pick up or in store. Took it to a PCWorld tech guy looked at it showed the duff speaker £199 back on my card The screen is ok but the view angle needs to be right. Its no IPS screen but like the rest of the device its built to a price. Check for all the common faults and return it. 3.5 jack modulates and distorts, speakers loose connection, etc Run the screen calibration tool that seems to fix things for some folk (no PSU plugged in when you run it and keep it on a flat surface away from any objects during calibration. I bought 2 one for me one for someone at work. Had mine for 2 weeks no problems, the chap at works one had the problems. I I have him mine and returned the faulty unit. Back it up and reinstall the official firmware. Install multi touch visualizer and maybe another affected game. Transfer them to the built in memory and take your card out. Get your charger and make your way to your local store. Explain and demonstrate what is wrong with the unit. 100% sure you will get one back if the screen is faulty but they might say that they need to see if they can fix it. What have you got to loose? The max is 30 days but they normally do it within 14 days. They will come to the decision that they cannot replace the screen and will give you a new one. If they fix it then you will get the same one fixed, I doubt it though. This is just a guess on what will happen. Worst case scenario they will say that they will not replace it as they cannot find any fault, make sure that you show them how it affects your use of the device. This is similar to what I have done, my screen was terrible though and it was easy to show them what was wrong with it with angry birds and multi touch visualizer. One of the things you have to be aware of is that the model of the vegas made at christmas, with and without flash, have different product codes. Make sure you explain that they are the same unit, it might be that they have no stock for the old one but have stock for the new one. Good luck mate.

Guest 2old2mould Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 Bearded1, I think I remember your issue with the split screen and if I recall the issue was with your screen background which was cobbled together from two different images? Have you tried a different screen background. It is unlikely that a screen issue would manifest itself as two separate screens, in fact I cannot think of any instance where this would occur 'by accident'. You may wish to confirm it isn't your background before returning the device as hearing the words 'dozy' and 'muppet' in the same sentence can often cause offence :) Secondly, the issue with the screen is so well known and documented on here that in all respects it should be taken as a given that it is a characteristic of nearly all Vega's. The solution is to use the calibration tool and to check the screen with the Multitouch Visualizer when it's plugged in and then unplugged. Plugged in will give you some stuttering near the bottom (mainly left) as that's where the power hardware resides, and this will also be the case when the Vega gets hot after prolonged use. The best option and again one that has been discussed on here a few times is to purchase the Masterplug charger (£9.99) from Argos which 'smooths' the power and so reduces a significant amount of the stutter. I cannot begin to explain how much better the device is once the screen is calibrated and the new charger is used. I hope that helps. If you still feel your machine is duff after all that then definitely take it back. 2o2m.
Guest FrownBreaker Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 i posted this a while back - http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...-face-syndrome/ Just show them the Google example in the store. Faulty screen. You need a convincing simple demonstration of the problem like a photo or the Google screen.
Guest 2old2mould Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 Ah, just seen the extension to your previous post. So, you changed the PNG and the problem went away. Then the problem came back? But the problem did go away when the original PNG was changed... right? Now that is curious. If the issue was with the screen then changing the PNG would not have made a difference. Unless this is an issue with how your Vega deals with white? Does this issue appear when you use Red, Green or Blue? The screens are a one piece design, so perhaps the issue is with the MoBo/Graphics aspect of the system. If you can try different backgrounds and post pics it would be useful. Alternatively you could just take it back and get a new one lol. 2o2m.

I bought the charger from argos and that made a difference but not enough for me to be happy with it. Still had the same problem but not as pronounced. I was able to show them and get them to agree that there was a problem and the device was not plugged in.
Guest Schooleydoo Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 I wouldn't worry about it at all. When I returned mine, they didn't even take it out of the box/plastic sleeving.
Guest bearded1 Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 Yeah.. i initially thought it was the picture that was the problem when i changed it to a blank black picture. Then i went onto the internet and it was all horrible again. It even does it on the advent logo at startup!
