Is it worth it? Gen1 to Gen2?

I bought my phone a week ago and i've successfully been running froyo rom using rom manager and i also flashed Cyanogenmod 7.0 stable, the earlier one but it had accelerometer problem, less responsive. I don't know if i should upgrade my phone to gen2 since it won't allow me to switch back to gen1 and do factory reset if i have to send it to orange for repair or so. I just want to collect some thoughts before i update my phone to gen2 because i was playing miami vindication and MAN it was laggy even @ 740 mhz... and neocore only scoring 39 FPS...so i just want to ask if the latest cyanogenmod build is stable and doesn't have accelerometer issues and so !

Please give me some advice on switching to gen2 or not, i want to be on the safe side.

There's no need to upgrade to gen2 since kallt_kaffe developped a patch to make the latest CM7 nightlies available for gen1 devices.

but the partition problem, wouldn't it remain there? or can you just flash CM7 on 128mb and it would work?

if u open zip before flashing and get rid of unwanted languages etc it should only be max 90mb

people who bought stock gen2 blades cant actually post in this thread or vote as they never had to upgrade

@hecatae - IIRC you converted to Gen 2 and then went back to Gen 1 and ended up with a zero IMEI, that I noted you posted.

Did you get that resolved, apart from going back to Gen 2 and if so how...?

went back to gen2 with correct imei by inserting the channel1.nvm at the right time when reflashing the gen2 upgrade

Then you are fortunate Hecatae. :)

When I changed mine to Gen 2 there was no channel1.nvm in either a subfolder of Windows or the folder where the installation was being done from. Even though it worked fine for me I am a little concerned that I do not have a backup of that file. I don't suppose it is possible to do anything about that now..?

rerun the gen2 upgrade, keep the application open, you'll find the channel1.nvm in the folder, copy it and keep it safe

easiest way to do this is to nandroid backup your current partitions, drop them into the files folder and run the gen2 upgrade

I do very much appreciate your generous help in this :)

I am nandroiding my SS Gen 2 system at the moment. Would I be right in thinking that I can then copy that nandroid backup (all the files) and copy over what is in within the files folder and drop them in there and it will be back as it was....?

My first step will be to install the stock recovery

I have done it but the flasher is showing...

and I'm at the CWM prompt on the phone. The flasher makes an audible noise every minute or so and the red message telling me to RESET keeps flashing..?

re-run as administrator, keep phone connected, and I hope you took out the battery before running the flasher

With the new Gen1 - Gen2 TPT and Gen2 - Gen1 TPT set there's no need to be worried :)

I might be in trouble here. I did as I had done previously before this attempt to get the nvm file and now I ran the partition tool and flasher again. This time it worked.

However I keep getting stuck in a CWM mode. It just keeps booting into CWM even after I have installed SS R4.

Help please...?

This is the flash tool showing success (battery removed)...

still it will not boot but just keep going into recovery.
