Setcpu overclocking on current version?

Being lazy I thought I'd try installing the Setcpu.apk on my current r7 mck_v2 system and see if I could soup it up a little prior to upgrading to Corvus5 (thanks to Corbus & newbe5). Anyway, have installed Setcpu and ran Quadrant benchmarks before/after the install and can see no improvement yet. Is there something in the set-up for this app which I've missed please? My settings are max=1000mhz and min=216mhz, no tick in set on boot yet. Scaling greyed out. If it is to do with a need to setup a profile can someone suggest the best values for the highest performance please?

Thanks in advance :)

First question, sanity check, did you do the custom configuration provided by setcpu.txt?

If that's ok, then the only thing I can think of is that you probably need the boot.img provided by the Corvus ROM. As the CPU frequency is a kernel based modification, without using the kernel provided by Corvus, the maximum CPU frequency that you can set is the 1000mhz, as you have seen.

As there is no change to the underlying kernel, setCPU is just setting the CPU to exactly how it was before (if that makes sense :)). In order for it to make the change, it requires the underlying differences too.

If you flash the boot image provided by Corvus, you should notice a difference. (It may require you to clear the setCPU data and reconfigure it).

Good luck,

Zeb ^^

Thanks for the pointer Zeb I did install setcpu.txt file and slider went up to 1400mhz but no change to performance so I'll have to get moving and go to Corvus5 sooner rather than later then to get the benefit :)

Right. Firstly you cant just download setcpu and assume you can overclock the vega because you have that app. The kernel on whatever rom yiur using has to allow it. hence why we all havnt been overclocking our vegas for the past 6 months. The only kernel that allows overclocking is the one built in by the new corvus 5 rom. Only that rom allows you to overclock. One you have flashed that rom, then you can use setcpu to overclock the vega, to the speedy heights of 1.4ghz.
