Guest aj2703 Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 (edited) Hi. As you can see i am a complete noob to this site and also to Android too. (Have an iphone 4) :). I brought one of these advent tabs and i must say after flashing they are great. One thing i was hoping was that this would give me access to my on-line Microsoft course through learndirect but alas it does not. Is this because the tablet does not support Java..?. I have enabled it in the browser setting option but it's looking like a no go. If not, does anyone know if there is anything in the pipeline to solve this problem?. Many Thanks. Apparently the upcoming RIM Android Tablet will support Java which 'may' one day lead to further development potentially for the rest of us but I wouldn't expect anything imminently :)
Guest Stevonator Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 Shame :) Could've played RuneScape on the go :)
Guest luckyluca Posted July 14, 2011 Report Posted July 14, 2011 Sorry, so the tablet doesn't support java at all ?!? One of the apps I need to run does a javascript/ajax call to an online database; does it mean that there is no way to get this application working on the vega? by the way 'm on corvus5 at the moment. Cheers Luca
Guest Solidare Posted July 14, 2011 Report Posted July 14, 2011 Hi luckyluca You mention both Java and Javascript in your posts? are you aware these are two different things? Have you tried another browser, perhaps Opera Mobile or Skyfire? Make sure they are set to browse as Desktop and not mobile. There is also a Java emulator, called jbed, for android although i don't think it will work within the browser. May be worth a look?
Guest luckyluca Posted July 14, 2011 Report Posted July 14, 2011 (edited) I'm sorry I was a little confused <img src='http://android.modaco.com/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> I was trying an app called gmap for android, by fswidgets ( a moving map for x-plane for android ) and the error I was getting according to the developers might have had to do with java. Never mind, my bad. " ...What I do know is that at that moment the app is making a JavaScript/Ajax call to the database to search for nearby airports. It's not a particularly taxing function, the code on both ends is very quick (under a second in many cases, the biggest lag would be the icon drawing but that is after the database call). Sorry if that all sounds like Chinese but to me it could be that the device may be limiting code execution so perhaps check if there is some kind of security timeout for JavaScript execution (on iOS it is 5 seconds)...
