Guest The Soup Thief Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 You'll love this one! Last November my brother in law asked me to get him a san francisco to give to his wife for her birthday. Next time I was in the UK I picked up a nice OLED one, unlocked it and passed it on. She loved it. Everyone was happy Roll on six months and she let slip yesterday that a few days ago she caught her 1yr old & 2yr old switching on the microwave! She dashed to turn it off & as the light flashed out she was horrified to see her beloved phone on the turntable... It wouldn't start up, getting stuck on the android so, she thought it was goosed, but I think it's salvageable... seems like the screens intact but the sd's shagged - if I take it out I can get the FTM screen Will report back when I've got it home & had a good meddle

Test the screen / digitizer with another blade.. They can both be sold for 20 each on ebay The battery probably worth about 5 given its used The casing and backcover are probably worth a bit Perhaps little parts like the headphone jack, microphone etc could sell You could still get a fair amount if stuff works! But I must reccomend trying to flash a TPT image (with another sd card ofc..) I dropped my OSG in the sink and found it got stuck at the green android.. flashing Roms didnt help (neither did nandroid recoveries) but a TPT somehow fixed everything!
Guest BigD18t Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 Dont get me wrong, but how and why the hell is a microwave in reach of toddlers ? my girl is 2 1/2 and she cant reach our micro wave nor would i want her to.

Absolutely!! And they are very responsible parents, but they'be been in the process of moving house the last few days so it was stacked on the floor It had been unplugged but their grandad plugged it back in to warm something apparently and must have left it plugged in... I suspect I can breath new life into it but ain't home to do so currently, else it will be gracing eBay's pages...
Guest iKrautDroid Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 s***... Now I dont wanna have kids...

I agree with the rest but I wouldn't advise selling the battery. Mobile phone batteries (Lithium Ion/Polymer aren't an exception) are volatile at the best of times, one that has been microwaved is likely to be less stable. If it were to explode in use it could come back on you.
Guest JimJam707 Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 No way to flash that back to life xD
Guest Azurren Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 No way to flash that back to life xD Chances are something tiny (A resistor or capacitor) inside is beyond repair, probably a lot of small parts have been warped / destroyed I would probably also go down the "sell it for parts" road. Even if everything inside is ruined the back cover is still worth £5-£10 :)
Guest simonsays1 Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 Most of the electronic parts will be totally dead after a microwave session, but you can still try selling some of the parts such as the casing.
Guest dibbles Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 I remember our Son, when he was young, often posting his toys into the video recorder, and that is when VCR's cost over £400.!
Guest shpal Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 I remember our Son, when he was young, often posting his toys into the video recorder, and that is when VCR's cost over £400.! Yes...I remember them...my niece once pushed a slice of quiche in the front of theirs "to warm it up"....
Guest The Soup Thief Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 Alas - worst fears are realised - it's goosed! An ex-Android Managed to get a TPT started up - it ran through load /mmc1/image/apsboot.mbn then /boot.img then /recovery.img and /system.img but as soon as it began to flash userdata.img it cycled to the start again Looped and looped and looped for a good long while until I put it out of its misery Very sad Impressive, in a way, that it got as far as it did When I looked at the sd card, it was actually all grossly intact so it must have been something else that got spangled in those 3 seconds of electromagnetic mayhem when the microwave was turned on Ah well - there's at least one lesson in this for her...
Guest agreenjesus Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 Jeez, human society is based on the family. Says it all.
