Is there anyway to change the phone number in the about phone menu and it displays the number on the sim before I changed it to my old number.

If you are on 2.2, use MyPhoneNumber from the Market - works a treat......

put the sim in an old dumbphone and it should sort if for you

android phones cannot save the phone number to the sim.

dumbphones can. putting the sim in the dumphone saves the number to the sim and then it will display properly in android.

old phone had the option too add 3 numbers on the sim card on as you number (at least my phones did) but this was like pre colour screen phones, so i don't know how old your phone will need to be too have the edit option.
