Guest rlowell Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 (edited) Group: I'm getting ready to buy my first Streak. I live in California. I want to use Skype to make calls over WiFi or 3G. But I don't intend to have a regular 3G contract. I know the Android version of Skype wants to keep itself from letting you make a call. I've seen my friends try and have it say things like "In U.S., Skype only allows calls over WiFi". My question for those of you who are knowledgable on this is how the Skype app determines this. For instance, if I have an unlocked phone (which doesn't have the AT&T lock code in it), will I still see this message when I try and initiate a call? How about if I have no 3G provisioning from a carrier? Will I still see this message? Thanks in advance. rlowell Edited April 24, 2011 by rlowell
Guest pattym Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 Judging from this link: http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/20/skype-f...-personal-data/ You should no longer have a problem with the latest version of Skype. Anyone from the US tried this?

Anyone from the US tried this? Thanks, Pattym. I (unlike others in this thread) am a loyal skype user. And I'd prefer it over learning any of those other voip programs for Android. I was not aware of this update. rlowell
