After hours of faffing with Activesync, I've now been told by Orange that the programme does not work with USB. This has been known for a couple of months - nice of them to tell people before purchase.

A softare upgrade is expected within the next month. Doesn't help those of us on the 14-day trial!

Ever so slightly miffed

That's a lie. The supplied USB modem driver doesn't work.

The rest of us are happy activesyncing away. Give us some details and we might be able to help.

Orange are so full of sugar and spice and all things nice.

Of course it does work with USB, if you have problems gettin it to connect(which i have all the time) you just need to end the ActiveSync process with task manager. Can't remeber quite which one at the mo (at work with no activesync). Im sure some kind bod with a better memory than me will tell you the name.

Works for me atleast... :)

Dont Orange just mean the phone modem doesnt work over USB- not that Active Sync doesnt?

That it doesn't work with USB - it does with IR.

That said, just tried on a PC with XP and guess what, it works.

Bit naughty of Microsoft.

Process name is wcescomm.exe

I've had similar problems with ActiveSync - mostly works fine, but then on the odd occasion will throw it's toys out of the pram and not connect for love nor money. Then, just when you're giving up, off it goes again!

I assume that you've installed the driver before plugging the phone in as I've read elsewhere that doing the reverse can screw things up (ActiveSync-wise) for you!

Sorry I can't be more helpful,

I had problems within the last couple of days with Activesync, I use it at work and at home and all of a sudden it just stopped sync'ing.

I could here the sound of the USB device being accepted ok but AS wouldn't connect.

I diabled the USB Hub, then tried uninstalling the HTC Device driver (which it wouldn't, even though it said it had), finally the answer to my solution was to do a proper reboot of the phone. So I did a hard reset, just didn't wipe the IPSM. Works fine now, think AS on the phone screwed itself, so the reset musta sorted it out.

Rob, thats what happens to me, just end the wcescomm.exe process, put the phone back on the cradle and BINGO!

ActiveSync has been available for USB devices for a few years now. Regardless of the activesync device you need to remember the following:

1. Serially connected devices need to be 'soft-off' for the data packet to be received by the device for the first time only.

2. USB devices need to be powered on at all times for the sync to work.

3. For the first time the SPV is synchronised - install the ActiveSync software first before attempting to put the phone in the cradle.

4. If you find that the SPV will not connect or has trouble saying 'hello' to your computer, open up your 'hardware devices' list in Windows Control Panel and look for any USB devices that have not been found correctly. If there is any, remove them and then perform from step 3 above.

Orange are unreal, and so full of crap.....1st if orange and microsoft do not support USB why are the options on the phone, the manual, their website etc etc......

I had this before with them. It seems to be older phones possibley driver related, i had to take two phones back and get them replaced before mine worked. still not sure if this is the real answer, however did talk to someone sensible at orange (hard to believe but true) who said 10 people from orange went on a course with the SPV. and NOT ONE of them got theirs connected via USB only through IR.

Sounds like Orange under spent on their training budget again.......
