My blade is using CM7 gen 1 but I also had this problem using MCR.

In the recent good weather, quickly overheats when GPS is used - unless I hold it in front of my car air-conditioning vent.

With the battery case removed I can tell that the SIM gets VERY hot, as well as the area just above the SIM.

The SD card also gets hot, and after a while the phone will report that the SD card has been removed.

Tests show that it seems to get less hot if I stop the screen re-drawing by dragging the map slightly, however this test is not conclusive.

The air-conditioning-cooling DOES stop the phone getting hot AND stops it from reporting that the SD card has been removeved

Q: Does anyone else have overheating problems with GPS?

Q: Does anyone else have the "card ejected" problem

Q: Any idea how to reduce the heat generated from GPS? Maybe like cause it to output GPS locations less often or cause the screen to paint less often?

@samjam, I take it you mean cm7 converted to gen1 using kallt's conversion tool?

Are you overclocking? That will make the phone run hotter. You could always try underclocking it...

I mean I'm using the last CM7 that was released for gen1, it is CyanogenMod-7.0.0-Blade

I'm not overclocking, and underclocking makes no difference to the problem. On a real hot day with underclocking I can get "SD card removed" within a couple of minutes.

The problem occurred previously with MCR Froyo in January but took a lot longer to occur (and the weather was colder)

I've just installed CM 7.0.2 with WBAW's TPT gen2 upgrade and see how that behaves.

Might be a stupid and obvious question but have you ever dropped it or got it wet in any way?

exactly few hours ago my Blade got freezed after overheating on gps mode (Aura Sygic). I was able to restart the program and everything went fine.

There was a hot sun and I was keeping the blade in charge.

At the end I figure that this summer I will use the old fashoned nokia 5800 as navigator :)

Are you using the 2GB card that came with the Blade or a different card. I had this problem with a new card but the problem disappered when I went back to the orginal SD card.

I'm still with the standard 2gb sd card :) (but I really need to change it !)

Isn't this a case of "phone heavily used in direct sunlight overheats"? Which is kind of expected?

Using the GPS doesn't make the phone hot, but satnav abusing the CPU will. What satnav s/w you using?

It's not direct sunlight, but just higher ambient temperature. I'm using google navigation.

The memory card is a 16GB class 4 from play.com

I have that but it was when charging and using GPS and a wireless hotspot - and no aircon

My blade dies at 65+ and by Desire ate 40+

Sense Clock - in the market has a temperate option
