Guest Simbowales Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 Going to try to root and upgrade my OSF again this week but I have a few questions to ask. I have downloaded the nescessary files as required for Steven Harper`s guide ( universal androot, recovery manager v0.36b and recovery clockwork 3.0.2.4 img) and they are still in zip files exept the androot which is an APK on my pc at the moment and intend to install Clockwork using Recovery Manager, and then install a ROM using Clockwork via Recovery Manager so firstly can I just copy the zip files unziped to the phone (downloaded and installed astro file manager) and secondly when and where do I do a backup of the current Orange set up ? I was thinking of using the Japanese Jelyfish 2.2 Rom so has anyone used this or are there better options available? Many thanks for reading guys, Paul
Guest hugobosslives Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 yet just follow the guide. transfer it all onto ya phone. doesn't matter if still zipped or not. once phone tho they will need to all be unzipped. install the two apps. root with the androot. then install the recovery manager. here flash recovery. afterwards boot into recovery. here backup. then here flash new rom. I'm not Guna start the rom conversation....
Guest Simbowales Posted April 26, 2011 Report Posted April 26, 2011 (edited) I am being extra carefull this time guys so please be patient with my questions. I have downloaded Androot 1.6.1 and Recovery Clockwork 3.0.2.8 Blade gen 1 img to my phone from the links in Mr Harper`s how to install a custom rom guide and checked the md5 details with Astro file manager and got these, Androot = 51fd17c2df1a264a5cf8dfadd0c53216 Blade gen 1 img = 39ce6be5ccea9081556acc3e4b422c48 Blade gen 1 img zip =7a5c3fe06f39802775886625ced370c4 Where can I double check the md5 sum to on each to make sure the files have downloaded complete and correct ? Should I use the unziped Blade img file or let Astro file manager install the zipped version ? I am quite anxious because I ballsed up an installation on the weekend and got the phone working with you guys help and don`t want to do it again !! Thanks, Paul Edit, found the blade img and that is correct so its just the Androot md5 sum now. Edited April 26, 2011 by Simbowales

Guest Simbowales Posted April 26, 2011 Report Posted April 26, 2011 Mucho kudos to Huggo Boss for giving me the laid back approach and to Jeddy1 for giving me the kick up the ar$e to load Swedish Spring on my new installed rom San Francisco !! Cheers guys !!
Guest C3P001 Posted April 26, 2011 Report Posted April 26, 2011 So it all went well then ? How do you find Swedish Spring ? noticeably faster than stock oh wait you were on 2.1 i guess so even stock 2.2 would be faster ....anyways how is Swedish Spring I cant decide between that and CM7 ..I have a gen 2 blade
Guest Simbowales Posted April 26, 2011 Report Posted April 26, 2011 Compared to all that "Orange" stuff on the vanilla rom, Swedish Spring is very very good.It has all the apps I need loaded so at the moment it satisfies my Blade needs ! Paul
