Guest peterx666 Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 I have a Acer liquid with firmware 1.6 and baseband A1-01.02.01 Kernel 2.6.29 Build number Acer_Liquid_1.002.03_EMEA_GEN1 The phone in its original form I was resisting upgrading anything because I read on this forum the problems that people were having and I was scared to do anything in case I made it worse; and I am new to all this and dont know where to start and it what order to do things Thats where I hope some kind person can point me in the right direction What has made me consider it is that the phone reception is rubbish (cant get any signal in the house at all on Vodaphone, whereas my partner gets 3 bars on her Samsung) and I have been trying to use Goggle maps but keep losing signal. I understand the the phone can be improved by rooting it or something? In addition I am worried I cannot fully backup everything on my phone - Can back up the SD card with the main stuff but I understand I need Malez recovery to do everything? Downloaded 0.6.1 but dont know if its the latest and the instructions I read said the phone should be in debug mode ..... so that lost me completely and I am worried again! :( There seems all sorts of ROMS (whats a ROM) but will I gain anything from re-ROMMing it or could I just end up with a brick - like people are saying? :) So if anyone can shed any light, on if there are any gains to be had from various steps I would be greatful Please be gently I only have a one cell brain! :) Pete p.s. For the last few years I have been amazed at what the liquid can do and happy with the general performance (battery life a bit low) and now find it invaluable in all I do so would not like to be without it
Guest cKen Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 hi peter im kinda new but i understand how u feel aboyt it cause without it i think id die lol, well ill tell u somethings, from there ull choosr what to do (: 1st: to install malez recovery it asls u for usb debug mode, true, but dont get scared yet lol usb debug mode its just an option u need to check, you finD it at settings>aplications>developement> and there u go, even if u re not going to flash anything, i highly recommend u to have malez recovery, that way u can back up ur phone data to ur sd card with a backup callef nandroid, and ofc restore it whenever u want (: 2nd: a Rom is just like a firmware, a system, in simple words its like windows xp and vista lol, there u have lots of them, personally im using LeoGingerbread liquid edition (android 2.3.3) and before it i used lcr-f, and trust me, the best i could have done is to root my phone and isntall a Rom on it, why? my phone is a lot more faster and smooth, i can customize it as much as i want, i get benefits as being able to run flash player content on internet and mant other things! 3rd: and the only u must be scared about, flashing a BIN file... idk why, but it ALWAYS had failed to me just when it about to finish, even tho i run malez recovefy and isntalm the rom i was flashing the bin for, and everything its ok! so idk if its only me or what, but it has always been like that. please feel free to contact the community, its a big world over here, regards! Ken

Ken Thanks Ken........ at least I know where debug is now.................. will try to install malez recovery if the version I have downloaded is the latest - can anyone tell me? any idea? The ROM thing - is the 2.3.3 the most reliable? will it give me better phone reception on Vodaphone? Pete :)
Guest cKen Posted April 26, 2011 Report Posted April 26, 2011 for me the most reliable one, without a single bug, the PERFECT rom, is the lcr-f wich is 2.2.1, but ofc u can always try others cause even knowing so i preffer leogingerbread lol, and if im not wrong latest malez rec is 0.6.1 i think, BUT i cant tell if it'll improve the signal of your phone x.x
Guest siggey Posted April 26, 2011 Report Posted April 26, 2011 (edited) I think you can start upgrading your phone with original Acer firmware (called leak and in bin format). You can choose from this topic http://android.modaco.com/content/acer-liq...act-collection/. Upgrading bin you surely get better performance. You can also get the files from Acer web site, with Acer instructions and standard procedure. A good start in knowing liquid is this topic: http://android.modaco.com/content/acer-liq...-liquid-thread/ Good luck Edited April 26, 2011 by siggey

Thanks again both pete acer_liquid_2.0.0_emea_gen1 is very old, probably donut. You have to go on Acer website for your country, driver & software, liquid. In this section you can find latest update, if you have a 256 mb liquid it will be 2.1, otherwise 2.2. From Acer you get an executable file. Run it on your pc and follow the instructions. The process is user friendly. Good luck.

Guest peterx666 Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 Update every time I try Malez the phone will not start or charge Take battery out - try again - everything works Pete

Had it running but I now have a few questions before I dare do anything............ Rooting the phone shall I use method 1.1 or 1 or 2? (I assume I need to do this before Backup will work? Malez Backup - where does it back up to? Does it back up the contacts? Malez move Apps to SD card - is this reliable or does it trash all the progems (everything is on the phone at the moment) what do I gain if I do this? Whats Malez BusyBox? Whats Malez SQ lite? Is there any other advice anyone can give me before I go down this long and dangerous road? Pete
Guest peterx666 Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Update.... it may be my imagination but even now the phone looks faster and smoother!!!!!!! I managed to download an OS upgrade (I assume thats the same as a ROM upgrade?) to my computer OS_Acer-2.000.16EMEA.cust1_A16D_A.zip This seems to be the latest? Assume I have to load this before I can load any of the Fancy ROMs mentioned on this site? My Zip opener wont open it - if I put it on the top level of the SD card in my phone will Malez install it or is it dodgy? Pete

Still dont know the best thing to do in what order (after I have done a backup - assume I run Malez then plug into my computer USB to back up???????? ) Any comment appreciated Thanks Pete :D
Guest cKen Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 You can use any root method they both work, busybox is something you need if you will use root cause it haves lot of comands and stuff that even i dont understand lol, same for sqlite, on backup the best way is nandroid back up, it gets stored on the root of ur sdcard in a folder named nandroid, wich it it backsup EVERYTHING you had, and i mean EVERYTHING, its like if you save all the things your phone have, and on the wipe menu is to wipe (erase) the things you will see there urself (; and DO NOT INSTALL SOMETHING WICH IS NOT COMPLETE, like if the page said it was 128mb and whar u downloaded says 15/100/not the complete number, its very probably that is corrupted or not complete and in fact will not work

What about the other points I mention do you have any comment on those? Thanks again pete
Guest cKen Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 mm the thing is that when u do a backup, ur backing up everything, all the system so if you restore it, you will restore all the system u backed up(the apps, concacts, sms, data, everytving that was stored on your phone) and data or apps 2sd is something that allows you to move your apps or the data partition of ur phone to ur sd card ext partition (ext partition on sd card if like if you take a part of the space on ur sdcard to store things that are normally on ur phone, but for this it needs to format the sd card to be carefull if decide to do so) what do u gain with app2sd? simply more free space on ur phone so you can store more things (: if you have any other question just post it
