Guest swukjay Posted April 27, 2011 Report Posted April 27, 2011 (edited) Hi guys i know there are some real smart dudes out there and gals that live and breath code and im wondering with this articles stating....Google has been compiling the publicly accessible database of router locations in its quest to build a service, a la Skyhook, that pinpoints the exact location of internet users who use its sites. Now, hobbyist hacker Samy Kamkar has developed a site that demonstrates just how comprehensive Google's catalog is. Plug the MAC address of your router into Kamkar's website, and chances are it will pull up its precise location, courtesy of Google Maps article courtesy of http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/04/22/go...ivacy_concerns/ would it be possible for you guys to build a rom that strips this or blocks it so we can have our privacy back ? or a app that removes the offending file there must be something than can be done? maybe a app that sends a spoof mac address rather than a real one? Besides how can someone trace you they need your mac address and if they have that which would be obtained via your network they know where you live.
Guest wbaw Posted April 27, 2011 Report Posted April 27, 2011 Alternatively you could just go to settings -> Location & security settings, then untick the first box 'Use wireless networks'. It's already an opt-in service on every Android phone, there's no need to block it, if you don't like it then simply don't use it.
