Guest jdouce Posted April 27, 2011 Report Posted April 27, 2011 Was wondering if anyone with experience with both can tell me how much real life difference the extra 256MB of ram makes? Thanks

Guest fear_factory84 Posted April 27, 2011 Report Posted April 27, 2011 Was wondering if anyone with experience with both can tell me how much real life difference the extra 256MB of ram makes? Thanks This question is answered many times on this forum. more ram = more apps open, less need to open up apps. I had bought an a1 (it was cheaper), and I can live with it without problems. Sometimes poor written apps in background are killed to free memory when you are browsing heavy web sites. Apps written correctly are not killed.
Guest jdouce Posted April 27, 2011 Report Posted April 27, 2011 Thanks for the feedback guys. [s as in S100] I've has a original liquid for the last 18 months, and still love it. I only asked cz a E was going cheep on eBay
Guest jayziac Posted April 27, 2011 Report Posted April 27, 2011 Most Android apps are limited to using 32 MB each, so more RAM just means more open apps at the same time. I don't notice much of a problem since I use Zeam launcher and a minimal number of apps at a time (no widgets either). The more apps installed, the more likely a badly written app is also loaded and crashes or uses up battery power.
Guest Delnar_Ersike Posted April 27, 2011 Report Posted April 27, 2011 If you were to switch from a Liquid A1 to a Liquid E, the first thing you'll probably notice is a huge increase in gaming performance, and by huge, I mean HUGE. For example, certain games, such as Dungeon Defenders: First Wave or most Gameloft games, won't even run on a standard A1 and usually run @ about 5 FPS on an A1 with swap enabled; on a Liquid E, these games usually run without a hitch. Also, games that are RAM-intensive (use a lot of textures or a few, very high resolution textures) will run at a smoother framerate. Oh, and the extra RAM also means you'll usually get higher scores using any benchmarking app. Other than gaming and benchmarking, the differences aren't that noticeable. If you're using an Eclair ROM, there is basically no difference, as you will usually have ~80 MB of free RAM on an Eclair ROM with a standard A1. When using a FroYo or Gingerbread ROM, however, where you will probably have around 30 MB of free RAM at any give instance, background apps will be killed much faster on an A1 than on an E, as the memory threshold for killing background-class apps is frequently reached on an A1.

Thanks that what I was really looking for. I don't really game on mine, and I have about 45ish free ram. As unused ram is wasted ram with android, no real point upgrading

That's just how good you can tweak it. I run gingerbread on a A1 with 85 mb free RAM (no swap), now I'm thinking of tweaking swap so it will put the widgets on the swap file, so I have even more free RAM, and I run any Gameloft game without problems, with music in background. Maybe Dungeon Defenders wouldn't work (haven't tried it yet), but thats only one game. But it's true that the Liquid E is better, and easier. (because you dont need to tweak it)
