Just wanted to see if anybody on these forums could help... 3 users are reporting a bricked transformer on the xda forums. I'll copy the first post from over there

I had a working Transformer until earlier today when the OTA update came along. Having accepted installation, my device now gets to the Eee Pad / ASUS logo and hangs there (waited for about 45 minutes after the update). Trying to reboot into recovery gives:

Android WW_epad-user bootloader < e> released by "WW_epad-8.2.3.6-20110414".

Checking for android ota recovery

Booting recovery kernel image

It does not give me the Up to recovery, Down to wipe option.

Any thoughts on how I might recover the device?

We have tried putting the root update on the card and booting as well as the cwm and booting, neither yeild any results as we are not given the option to make a selection like you normally would be. Any help you guys can offer would be great!

EDIT: I also wanted to add that none of the devices were rooted (you can't root US devices yet) and it seems like it is possible to put it into NVflash mode.

I'm really hoping someone figures this out so I dont have to send mine back. I love this device...

When it's booting does it show in ADB?

Did you interrupt the flashing of the OTA?

I'll have to double check that when I get home. Did not interupt it, I dont recall if there was ever a status bar, I dont think it got that far. I waited about 45 minutes or so before rebooting because it was hanging. I do not believe i can get into adb, but like i said, i will double check that.

I'm one of the others from XDA who bricked...

After doing an "adb devices", the transformer doesn't show... It just stays stuck at the black "Eee Pad" screen. If you power + vol down, it lists the bootloader as 20110414 and the "Booting recovery kernel image", but you don't get the option to press vol up to start the process... So I can't even get the CWM memory card to boot...

I'm still learning about writing ROMs and such, I'm not sure if the 20110414 wants a signed EP101_SDUPDATE.zip... I've got my fingers crossed that the new boot method that's been mentioned (whatever that may be) would provide a solution...

Thanks for the suggestion, unfotuneately you cannot get to the recovery as it keeps trying to load the OTA recovery before anything else. Last night i tried to see if there is an option that pops up quickly before loading it, but there is not.

I have noticed that the US models are having these fota problems. I did mine straight after I got it yesterday and it updated fine. Could it be a bad download?

I should note, the NVFlash APX mode does work, and my PC tries to detect the driver for the APX device.

OK, so have you tried putting the clockworkmod recovery ZIP on your external SD card and doing the boot-to-recovery bit?

The OP in the other thread is a UK user. Also, many US users updated with not problems at all.

Yes sir... It hangs at the "Booting recovery kernel image", and I don't get the RCK prompt to push vol up...

Paul, you do not get the option to boot into rck. It (seemingly) skips past that. I have put it on my card to see what would happen and nothing happened.

Hmmm, that's weird, I wonder if it's corrupted during the flashing of the 'boot/recovery blob'.

The only likely fix I can think of is via NVFlash, and we don't have a Transformer compatible NVFlash binary yet... :/

Now, just to make sure i understand correctly, this binarie has to be in existence somewhere right? So if i get in touch with and talk to the right person at asus (long shot, i know) Someone should know what i'm talking about right?

I'd think so... not sure how much help you'd get through the 800 number though...

I hate to admit it, but I keep hoping that this forces ASUS to release an nvflash solution (if it affects enough users). This is what happened to Notion Ink when their first OTA update started bricking Adam tablets.....

On the phone with Asus again... seeing if I can get any information (maybe direct contact up the chain) on the NVFlash and some sort of restore image...

On a separate note, the individual last night I talked to, and this guy right now, are both "Technicians in training"... and they think the Transformer is a Windows tablet... :mellow:

Edit: Yah, I got nowhere with front line support... They wouldn't even give me a second tier number or email to try.

tell them you want to speak with a tier 3 technician. I read somewhere that this works :o I'm not home or else i would do it myself.

Shoot... I'll have to try that... I'm at work now so I should probably actually do some work first... I'll try to get time to do that tonight... If it works for you keep us updated! :o

Maybe I'll get somebody on the 3rd try that's not "in training".

Sent off an email to their support in the meantime to see if that goes farther...

I called them as well - after L1 tech referred to it as a Windows device, I stopped him right there and told him to escalate it to L2. Mine was more information gathering - "if this bricks my tablet, how do I fix it? Do I HAVE to take this update? Is there a known risk with running the update?" etc. etc.

Are you still on the line with them? Were you able to find anything out?
