Guest Dav0 Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 Had a bit of disaster on holiday by managing to stand on my vega, oops  Screen is badly cracked. Will boot up but it is struggling a bit to pick up touches on the glass although will work to certain degree. Anyone know how much to replace a screen? May be best just to claim through insurance, 2nd in about three years though, bummer....

My guess is it would cost as much as it would to replace it probably so an insurance job though you might want to consider using the broken one as a video player or games console if the HDMI and USB ports still work correctly.

Thx for that I had seen these, I was actually looking to see if anyone had had it replaced down the "official" route route with DSG rather than DIY effort, whole screen is cracked. Should have been more clear
Guest Dav0 Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Quick update Spoke to insurance company (Direct Line) and after a bit of argument on the level of excess they are collecting the Vega to see if can be repaired or if too expensive then replace What a faff though, a separate company deals with the insurance claims, another separate company looks at the tablet to decide if it can be repaired, some unknown courier company has to collect it for delivery to repair guys, if it can be repaired the repair guy will contact me to organize this, if not separate insurance company will contact me to arrange replacement....sheesh no wonder your premiums are high with this level of efficiency Fingers crossed it is totally borked but will have to wait and see Have reverted back to stock 1.09 rom and wiped sd card via adb to get rid of all my data before return. Interestingly enough the digitizer hardly works now with the stock rom whereas I could get some response out of the R8 rom, very odd? will let you know how I get on and repair cost of the screen is replaced for those that may be in similar boat

They just want you to pay the premiums and don't claim. If one of the direct debits did not go through they would be on your case and if it came to it they would take you to court to recover the debt. Since you are claiming they are doing everything in their power to not pay or pay as little as possible as with the average excess at around £100 you would have to pay half of it. A disgrace if you ask me, you pay them so you won't have to worry in cases like this and now you will spend money chasing them on 0870 or similar numbers, arguing about who and what should be paid towards it and so on. I have insurance but sometimes I wonder why? I took out the 3 year warranty with pc world called "whatever happens" or something like that. It would not cover me on a broken screen but it would, on pretty much everything else for 3 years. Good luck with it mate. Edited May 3, 2011 by carl rose
