2 Blades GEN1 CM7 stable - one has no GSM :(

Had my TFT GEN1 blade for a few months and recently put CM7 stable on it which is great and very stable apart from the odd crash unplugging the charger.

Advised my brother to get one and gave it to me to upgrade to CM7. His is also a GEN1 and GSM signal (stock firmware) was very weak / not present when mine was full strength but I managed to get it to activate on Orange and also added T-mobile network.

Flashed CM7 on it and now can't get any signal at all.

Here are the values in Settings->About phone->Status

Mine (working)

Network: Orange

Signal strength: -103 dBm 5 asu (2 bars)

Mobile network type: UMTS

Service status: In service

Roaming: Not roaming

Mobile network state: Connected

His (not working)

Network: Unknown

Signal strength: 0 dBm 0 asu (no bars)

Mobile network type: Unknown

Service status: Out of service

Roaming: Not roaming

Mobile network state: Disconnected

He bought his phone a few days ago so I guess I've got 2 options:

1) Try to flash on Orange FW back onto it and return it

2) Try and fix the GSM antenna

I don't think that CM7 is the problem as the signal was very weak / not present before I flashed it.

Is there an app for diagnosing GSM signal?

Any advice greatly appreciated,

Thanks,

Chris

Hey Chris,

In my views, you said it all... If before you did anything the phone already had a weird behavior, it's likely to be a hardware issue.

Just flash the stock rom and send it back for repair - ask for a replacement one and insist, you might get a new one directly as you bought it recently...

Just in case: did you try your sim card in it? It might be due to your bro's sim being too old/broken - but I wouldn't bet too much on it.

older sim cards use 5 volts and can affect network signal as the simcard is asking for too much power, newer sim cards use 3.3 volts or less.

Thanks for the tips.

I'm on contract and he is on PAYG and the SIM contacts are laid out differently but his works in mine but mine doesn't work in his.

Looks like a dud GSM antenna (WiFi works fine on his).

Will flash it back to Orange and return.

Thanks for the advice,

Chris

you dont need to network unlock.

I would not use the TPT unless you used the gen1 to gen2 TPT

Sebastian404 offers stock roms for all versions of Orange UK roms that are flashable with clockwork and flash stock recovery.

http://files.podtwo.com/roms/stock/zte/blade/

any of these:

OUK_P729BV1.0.0B05-update_signed.zip 2010-Jul-25 07:32:24 93.3M application/zip

OUK_P729BV1.0.0B08-update_signed.zip 2010-Oct-20 19:48:18 101.6M application/zip

OUK_P729BV1.0.0B10-update_signed.zip 2010-Dec-24 11:52:11 107.1M application/zip

OUK_P729BV1.0.0B20-update_signed.zip 2011-Jan-25 19:04:09 108.4M application/zip

would install a stock orange uk rom with stock orange recovery, and remove clockwork

Ok worked out how to uninstall root:

Re-install Universal Androot by copying .apk to SD card, run it and choose Un-root.

Reboot into clockwork recovery (hold volume down on power on)

Reset factory state and wipe cache

Superuser icon is now gone and so is Universal Androot icon

Can't get rid of clockwork but will go for the most stupid looking shop assistant when returning phone!

Many thanks,

Chris
