data connection issue on SS RLS5

SS is an awesome ROM, but there is a big issue since RLS4 which is turning out to be a dealbreaker for me :mellow:

Since i updated to RLS4 (and afterwards RLS5), my 3g/edge connection disconnects every 5 mins or so. It does not disconnect if i'm downloading anything, but only when phone is idle. I've checked MD5 of roms, tried reinstalling multiple times, wipe and tried without installing anything extra, but same results. I tried changing every setting under "mobile networks", tried gsm only, auto "network mode"s, "always on data" on/off but all in vein...

It was working fine upto RLS3 and this issue appeared in RLS4 and now in RLS5 too. So far the only way to get a data connection back is to switch off and on data connection or switching airplane mode on and off. But this is just a dirty fix, rest all my data dependent services running in background fail. I believe the introduction of "always on data" setting has broken something, but i'm not sure.

Can someone suggest something?

EDIT: Upgraded to Gen2 but still exact same issue. Switched to CM 7.0.2 and all well, switched back to SS RLS5 and same issue...

The fact that your issues are consistent on different ROMs would indicate a problem with:

1. Phone Hardware
   
2. Service Provider
   
3. Data Settings
   

You could disprove the first two if you had someone local with the same phone/different provider by doing some 'SIM swapping'

For the third possibility, here in the UK some people using the Giffgaff/O2 provider have found that removing the proxy server from their data settings has resulted in an improvement where they were previously having problems.

Thanks for stopping by :mellow: actually I am having problems only with SS RLS4 and RLS5. RLS3 is working fine and CM 7.0.2 is working fine. A search in SS forums displayed a couple of more users with the same issue. I dropped this topic in SS forums too but no resolutions so far :o

I'll try with different providers and see...
