Guest derffie Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 (edited) right I'll keep this short as I'm sure I won't get any help, as I never do, most forum 1337'2 frown on noobs, but here goes, I'm no fool, I use Ubuntu Linux, played a lot with all forms of Linux, windows yadda yadda yadda, BUT, no experience with android and I stupidly decided to buy a advent vega tablet yesterday, the one in pcworld looked awesome, mine... is not, no apps of any use, can't get apps of any use, no marketplace, I want to use it for digital painting, and I can't do jack with it, I phoned the techguys and was told to flash the rom and update it, (seriously? WTF, as this will void the warranty) dumb... So Help please, I want to install autodesk sketchup and a few painting apps this is all, or should I quit it and get a refund now? Any input would be nice, seeing as I've just paid to subscribe to this site.... OK Downloaded the offical image, as I have nothing else to try, using with windows 7, the box pops up: USB device not found press enter to continue.... *pathetic sigh* All issues resolved and now loving the vega! Sorry again to all who had the decency to reply and help to a tired grumpy old noob! Edited May 11, 2011 by derffie

The people here are lovely people and they won't help people like you if this is the way you present yourself. Secondly as this is an Advent Vega question you should've posted this in the Advent Vega section. You would of got many replies there. Starting with the fact that you want apps, please visit these links :- http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...online-kitchen/ http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...vus-teamed-rom/ They link to custom roms which you can flash onto your Vega and get the Android Market and in turn supply you with apps. They also speed up your device so I've heard. Flashing and installing custom roms will NOT void your warranty. The hardware is under warranty however they expect the software to be modded. So you will not lose your warranty by flashing a custom rom. I'm sure if you asked the techguys if it would void your warranty they wouldv'e happily supplied you with an accurate anwser. If you need any help with flashing or if you don't know what to do ask around politely and everyone will love to help you. Also search the forums as the question you want the anwser to has probably already been anwsered. Next time please post with a bit more respect and post in the correct sections of the forum. Stevonator Stevonator, I am so sorry you read my frustrations as angry, it was'nt aimed at anyone, very sorry for any offence caused, and thank you for taking the time to try help. As for the information from the tech guys, the chap told me flashing the rom would void the warranty,so I am sorry, If I seemed a little frustrated! Grr! Silly PCWorld.... Thanks you so much. Fred
Guest gadgetshop Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 I've only had mine a week so no expert, I tried for a few days trying to install drivers with no joy until I stumbled across the guide below and within 10 mins or so I had flashed MCR R8, and now corvus5. http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...-driver-guides/

Once you have installed the USB drivers and attached your tablet to your PC, it's pretty easy from there and even if something goes wrong, it's not that hard to rectify it. Just have a copy of the Vega default Rom on standby in case you need to reflash the ROM. I personally find that the easiest medod is using ADB. I would recommend Paul's Custom addon, as it's definitely the best so far. Here's a guide on using ADB to flash Roms. http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...-wrong-win7-64/ Place to find Vega Rom updates- look under downloads - http://www.myadventvega.co.uk/ 1.09 ROM http://www.myadventvega.co.uk/softwareImag..._Vega_Final.exe Paul's custom Rom addon - Install over 1.08 or 1.09 http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...online-kitchen/

Reallly great help guys! I am so sorry for the nashing of teeth that I inflicted on you all, but I do think Advent are naughty for this oversight, not having a marketplace on a android device.... thats silly! Kettle without a spout! Still this trial by fire intro to android leaves me thinking it won't be too bad to upgrade to honeycomb when it gets to the vega! Now running the Corvus5 and quite happy! Thank you all so much!!!
Guest UnderTheRain Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 Flashing custom ROM's DOES INVALIDATE your warranty this isn't just a software change its a firmware change but its easy to flash your rom back for warranty purposes. I got my vega today and the first thing I did was flash the rom so don't worry. Before you start Go to http://www.myadventvega.co.uk/ click on the download button and grab everything there. Advent have been gracious enough to provide you with a current copy of the firmware and all the tools you need to install it so in the event that you trash your vega its easy to recover. Install the software and usb drivers provided (I flashed my firmware with the one advent provided just to check everything was working). Next download the custom rom from modaco and install it using the instruction provided. Here's a handy video for you to watch it's based on the v6 rom but it worked perfectly for me in Win 7 64 using rom v8. The instructions for the rom and download are here http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...online-kitchen/ The only issue I had in the whole process was when I had the dos box open the bacth file seemed to hang this was because I hadn't installed the additional usb driver from the modaco pack (this is a must you must update the installed driver with the modaco one before everything will work watch the video it's all explained there). It took me only a few mins to get this working and the difference in the machine is staggering. Thanks to Paul for all the work on th ROM it's transformed my vega.
Guest ThisisSparta Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 Try to find anything that touches the Vega out of the box for the price, you wont. Once roms installed and the new corvus/newbe5 Honecomb on its way, it slays everything in its path. I love mine, use it for uni for ppt n wrd thanks to docs to go, pick up email etc, luv it
Guest derffie Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Thanks mate! Running the corvus5 number, its impressive! Learned a lot in this week since getting my vega, really great help from the whole community here, glad to be a part of it. As for pcworld..... staff needs some information on their products!

I agree, tried a samsung galaxy tab and that wasn't anywhere as fast and responsive as a vega with corvus5 on it, best surprise pressie my wife ever got me! Fingers crossed for corvus and newbe5, their hard work is amazing to watch progress. Thanks dude.
