Guest kspamhere Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Hi all i am using JJ on a gen1 and trying to play music from the usb on my car headunit like i used to with my old sony ericcson phone but I can't seem to get it working. I plug in using the usb cable and select mass storage mode on the headunit switches to USB but doesnt display any music just sits at usb. Has anyone got this running? i have tried turning off usb debugging also and nothing changes
Guest Michealtbh Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Maybe your music needs to be on the root of your sd card, rather than in any folders
Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 And in a format compatible with your car
Guest veehexx Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 my pioneer HU needs an audio track on the root of the sd card. only then will it continue to scan for subfolders/files. i've placed a 1 second silent mp3 there just so it works.
Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Also, does the phone come up with the connect to pc notification in the notification bar?
Guest kspamhere Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Thanks for the replies guys its good to know you are using it and its working. I have tried everything thats been suggested like root of the sdcard thats the first pace that i put them you see. all mp3 format, which the headunit supports. It does come up with the usb notification. Quick question what roms including version are you guys using.
Guest veehexx Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 i havent used the blade with my HU, but my HU (pioneer) needs an mp3 on the root of SD for it to work at all. otherwise it sees it as 'blank media'. i'm using 2.5" hdd on it. i can give it a go later though if you still need help...
Guest kspamhere Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 That would be good of you if you can do that see if it works for you. What rom are your running or is it stock blade.
Guest veehexx Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 (edited) thats weird; no go! i wonder if there are some 'special' drivers that just work on windows & linux, that aren't present on appliance type devices. i'll see if i can nab the gf's wildfire and test that; see if it's specific to the SF, or android in general. fwiw, i'm on flb's 11b rom, 8gb class 6 Transcend card, and i believe formatted on the phone itself. it's possible it's the folder names; i know android devices have a .secure and .android folder, so maybe headunits dont like this. i'll see if i can emulate folder structure on my 2.5" hdd if the wildfire doesnt work. another nail in the SF coffin. i've been contemplating a big mSD card for it and connect to HU - looks like I've saved some money! update: wildfire works! looks like the issue lays with the SF!. wildfire is completely standard 2.1; whatever vodaphone supply. Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Im pretty sure the SF doesn't work with mass storage usb media players (if that makes sense) Eg my panasonic hifi - i get the notification but im pretty sure it doesn't work! I'll try again in a bit - but It might not help you much... Wonder if there is some kinda force usb app (type thing) to get it to work :L
Guest sambartle Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 (edited) I had a problem like this when I tried it in a Kia... I solved it by.. Connecting it up so that the phone let me choose mount usb.. waiting for it to finish in android then quickly turning the stereo off and on again.. which worked as the phone never had time to realise the usb had dropped. It seems to be that some devices that read a mass storage device get bored of waiting whilst android is doing whatever it is doing (unmounting most likely) the SD and switching it to Mass Storage mode.. (the android with the usb plug screen) Edited May 4, 2011 by sambartle
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Have you tried mount usb in clockwork ?

Thanks for taking the time to test. I think ill try stock orange rom and see if any difference Im pretty sure the SF doesn't work with mass storage usb media players (if that makes sense) Eg my panasonic hifi - i get the notification but im pretty sure it doesn't work! Wonder if there is some kinda force usb app (type thing) to get it to work :L Maybe a Gscript lite script to mount a particular folder direct on usb I had a problem like this when I tried it in a Kia... (the android with the usb plug screen) This was a standard kia stereo yes? Ill try that method anything is worth a shot Have you tried mount usb in clockwork ? I did try this once before no dice that was a while back. Anyone else with success stories? Please list what rom you are using and maybe headunit.
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 at your place i would try FLB rom or SWedish not long just do a nanroid backup before these 2 roms are a lot more up-to-date than JJ (material and drivers)
Guest veehexx Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 these 2 roms are a lot more up-to-date than JJ (material and drivers) i've actually dropped back to factory Orange 2.1 ROM due to anything else breaking bluetooth. i cant put my finger on it, as even modaco R4 (based on stock B05 with tweaked apps) doesnt work. i'm starting to think it might be broken on the rom but orange supply some sort of fix. just because it's newer, doesn't mean it works  anyluck with the orange rom? as i said, im back on it so i could retest...
