Guest Yogiman! Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Hi Folks Firstly let me apologies for my ignorance, I have spent a long time over the last week back and forth to this site and trying to understand all about the Advent Vega. However before I go and spend 200 quid I hope you kind people may be able to dampen some of my fears! 1). When installing the R8 rom are there things that don't work which should in terms of the hardware? 2). Once upgraded to this rom are there problems running any Android apps, obviously I understand that this is not Android 3 so what version of Android is it and if for example it is 2.3 then are all apps meant for 2.3 and below ok? (not sure if that really makes sense). 3). Does Adobe Flash 10.2 work 100% 4). Can I use the BBC iplayer App? 5). Is it likely that this tablet will be able to run Android 3.0 and is it likely that this would be a MoDaCo port or an official port by Advent? 6). Does anyone have an Advent Dock? If so are they worth the £30? And finally thank you in advance for any help you can offer me on these questions I know you all have better things to do  Regards Yogiman!

A lot of this has been answered before, however you have some diverse and well put questions there, so I'll have a go at answering them all for you! 1) All of the hardware works on most ROMS. R8 has everything (camera etc) working fine, the only thing that does not work in R8 100% in terms of hardware is the accelerometer. This is fixed in Corvus5 and CM7. 2) R8, Corvus5 and most others are Android 2.2, CM7 is Android 2.3. Most (if not all) apps work to some degree, although not all of them are well engineered to the Tablet format yet. A bit of hunting around usually gets you the right app for the job, but there are plenty out there that work perfectly! 3 & 4) Flash works flawlessly for me, I don't bother with the iPlayer app, I just use the actual iPlayer website in Miren browser and it streams everything perfectly (even hooked up to my TV via HDMI!). 5) The 3.0 question is a shaky one. My initial answer is: Yes. But how long that takes to happen is unknown as of yet. 6) I don't have a dock, although I am tempted to get one soon. It depends how you want to use it. If (like me) you want to use your Vega as a games console hooked up to the TV using an Xbox pad to play n64, SNES and Megadrive games, then a dock would be incredibly useful, as you could always leave the dock by the TV, and just plug the Vega in when you want to start playing some games on your big screen! Hope that covers everything! newbe5

Sorry rather newbie question!

Sorry rather newbie question! The acceleromter does work in R8 just not perfect, is does work in corvus5 really well and as corvus5 does everything and more that R8 does i'd just install corvus5, there is no need to switch between the two but i would try them both to see which you prefer, it's all a matter of personal preference

I think I will become one of the converted.... or is that flashed! Cheers again, I really appreciate your help! Yogiman!
Guest Zebrahead Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Excellent, thank you both for your help! I think I will become one of the converted.... or is that flashed! Cheers again, I really appreciate your help! Yogiman! I think! Corvus0.5 is the same as Corvus5 (just without Newbe5's GRID - correct me if I'm wrong). This means that you can enjoy all the benefits of CorvusX ROMs with the look and feel of r8 if you're opposed to the l&f of GRID. As Corvus/CM are effectively built up from r8, there's isn't a great deal of reason to use it instead of Corvus/CM. Zeb

Guest Zebrahead Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Thanks Zeb nice tip, thank you for the post much appreciated  Yogiman! That being said, I have no idea where I saw Corvus0.5.... It seems to not exist (or at least I can't find it now!) But either way, I could write a couple of lines that would revert Corvus5's l&f to that of r8 without losing any of Corvus5's functionality if needs be ^^. Zeb

Zeb Corvus5 is VERY different to Corvus 0.5 (completely new ROM, not just a theme, a lot has changed, including overclock, fixed accelerometer etc).

Thank's for clearing it up ^^. Idk where I got the idea from, thought I saw them in the same thread somewhere!
