Very variable signal and TB problems on FLB

I am running the latest version of FLB-Froyo (11b), and I have a couple of problems that have been annoying me, and I'm hoping someone can help:

1. The signal I get varies wildly. Having it sitting on my desk, it can vary from 0 bars to 4 bars in a matter of minutes. By 0 bars I do not mean "No signal" (with the X) but just no bars displayed. With 0 bars displayed, I can still make calls and send texts. Is this a ROM issue? Because I also have the issue where sometimes i do get "No service", and by locking and unlocking the blade, signal returns. I'm sure with the Orange sim I got very good signal, and the O2 coverage checker says I should have excellent coverage.

2. I used Titanium Backup (free) on the stock ROM and a few times (i think) on FLB 10 to backup my apps and settings etc, but now whenever I do it it invariably fails or hangs at some point (it could be 2%, could be 60%). It seems all root apps in general (Autokiller, Wireless tether app etc) have some sort of issue, occasionally just loading to a black screen or in the case of TB staying at "Getting root acces" or whatever. TB has been stuck at "63%- Backing up Maps 5.3.1" for an hour now.

Can I solve any of these issues by changing the ROM? EG- to SS?

EDIT: Okay this Titanium Backup problem is really annoying me :mellow: sometimes it will open sometimes it wont, sometimes it will start a backup, sometimes it will crash..now it won't even display the menu when i push the Menu key! I'm at my wit's end!

On a side note, I've read a lot about the paid for version being more stable and generally better than the free one. This seems strange to me. If Titanium was as bad as it is currently for me (I've used it to great effect in the past, so im not knocking the app), and I didn't research it, I'd certainly not buy the paid for one!

It probably is worth having a go at choosing a new rom or perhaps even reinstalling a clean version of FLB again after a wipe. I dont recommend you restore system apps using titanium using a different rom! See if any of the other backup programs on the market are working for you!

Perhaps consider upgrading your phone to Gen2. It is claimed that network signal is improved and there is now a Gen2 version of FLB available too.

I've installed a slightly modified version of FLB (my own :mellow: ) without a wipe, and it seems a bit snappier so thats a plus...I don't really want to upgrade to Gen2 atm as I am a tad nervous tbh and dont feel the need right at this moment. Thanks for the suggestion though :o

Also, was there not some kind of superuser/root problem with FLB?
