[GEN2] [ROM] FLB r11b Lite and Phat < Gen 2 only >

Hi Dibbles,

Thanks for that, and I agree that a cache issue might be the reason, though puzzled as to why SS5 which is 2.2 works just fine! I always clear cache, dalvik and data as well as pulling the battery and holding power down before flashing anything, so don't see anything wrong there.

None of the apps I'm trying to restore are particularly big, but they are 'Paid for' - things like Moxier Mail, Docs to Go etc.

I'm more than willing to experiment on this one, seems a few folks have the same issues I'm having.

Martin.

I found switching back from cm7 to any of the 2.2 ROM's i'm having this market error, its not big apps im installing. Anything off my sdcard or even install from my NAS works fine. How do you go about changing the cache size?

I have a partitioned SDcard with 512mb Ext4 and Linux swap of 96mb, not sure if its relivent, but the more info the better i find.

Here's a line from the SS Rom features:

- Automaticly mounts /cache as tmpfs (ramdisk) if cache partition is less than 20000kb.

On my GEN 1 (using FLB9 ROM), I followed wbaw's method of repartitioning which puts cache down to 2mb and this also installs a script to do the above for any 2.2 ROM

Method is detailed here - http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...1/#entry1573910

Here's an extract from the post....

The nocache version will shrink your cache partition to 2mb, to give you an extra 40mb for your data partition. This works fine on CM7, it already has the scripts to take care of it. On Froyo (2.2) this new version of blade backup will patch your current rom, but if you install another froyo rom later, then you'll also need to install this patch, or your market wont work:

NOTE: This process mentions GEN 1 ONLY, therefore I have no idea if this script would work on a Gen2 ROM - Just posting this for INFO and NOT suggesting anyone runs this script !!!!!!

AFAIK the partition sizes can only be changed when you are, in this context, using the TPT method to change to GEN 2.

The tool I used...

http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...l-windows-only/

I generated two files for a suitable partition layout for a GEN 2 phone and then used those files to replace the ones in the TPT update set. Then when those files only have been replaced I used the TPT method to flash the phone and hence the new partition size was created.

I used 20mb cache, 140mb system and the rest for data.

I have had no problems with any of the 2.2 ROM's I have used.

@Martin I am not sure why this ROM behaves in such a way when you mention that other 2.2 ROM's are fine. Then again, as noted, I have a 20mb cache and I only tried this ROM briefly before going over to LanceH's variant of the SS RLS 5 ROM.

Do you have any Market issues with my Gen 2 SS5s or FLBs?

Absolutely none at all. Everything, including the Market, runs perfect. As noted I only tried this ROM briefly as I like your other phat one so much.

Could you post your 2 files or even better the completed TPT update set, i can't run the cache maker as in nowhere near a windblows machine.

I did not keep the complete TPT update set after I used them so you will need to download those.

However I have created the partition files for a GEN 2 phone for...

20mb cache

140mb system

280mb data

You will need to replace those files from the TPT with the ones uploaded here...

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZDQXGKAL

I can't be responsible if anything should go wrong with the process.

I made the files using the linked tool and there were no errors noted during their creation. Do not delete any other file(s) from the TPT image and ensure the originals are replaced.

Good luck

EDIT:

I found the Image folder I used...

To Gen 2 with 140mb system 20mb cache and 280mb data

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YHZ5IX7D

Again the best of luck to you but I will plead "not guilty" if you fubar your phone

Not sure if they just need to "populate" their servers. But the first files are here...

http://www.multiupload.com/OFQ4TD4JRD

The TPT image...

http://www.multiupload.com/NR98V2U3JT

Do not forget that if using the TPT image files you will need a GEN 2 ROM ready to flash on your phones memory card.

Don't know what's happen with Multi and Mega upload, but i can't access either. I've tried pretty much all the other file hosters (rapidshare, fileserve, filesonic, mediafire) and i can access those, just not the 2 you've posted. Gutted!

*must be something my end, using a proxy to get it!

That was a lot harder than it should've been, but i can now download apps from the Market, which confirms (in my case) that the cache issue in tpt'ing to cm7 is causing the issue on this ROM

Glad it worked out for you. The 2mb cache has shown to be a problem for a number of people and had always seemed low for me. But maybe that was because I didn't need to maximise the data partition for every single megabyte possible. Perhaps doing that has consequences.

Such a nice change from CM7,

No Random Reboots, No Screen Freezes, No Random LED lights.

Made the light version even lighter (74mb > 66.9mb) running like a dream!

Cheers

Glad you folks found the issues with the Market. I was getting a number of queries about it on this and the SS5 Remixes for Gen 2 only. I couldn't reproduce it at all either of my Gen 2 phones, but they were converted using hecatae's Windows method with standard partitions.... I suppose I ought to add a note to the 1st posts warning those who have used small cache partitions...

Thanks again for saving my sanity.

hello ... Im having the Market download issues with this rom, I upgraded my gen1 oled phone using a TPT image with CM7 all in, could someone post a dummies guide to resolving the problem, ie increasing the cache partion ... thank you. Also does this mean you have to re-install the rom afterwards.

Any chance of someone making a full TPT image of the ROM.

+1, It would be nice to be sure of all the partition sizes regarding the market issues.

1. Download this >> http://www.multiupload.com/OFQ4TD4JRD (thanks to dibbles)

2. Unrar

3.copy /image/ folder to root of sdcard

4. Reboot phone and hold Vol Up until Green writing and boot

5. Boot into Clockwork Mod.

6. Flash ROM as usual.

140mb system 20mb cache and 280mb data

Thanks for the effort but what us noobs would like is a simple TPT that did the whole install in one go like the CM 7.0.2/3 image does. No messing around with multiple flashes etc.

You have to remember that whilst a 20mb cache size has been great for me there could be times when downloading a large app or game it will not be sufficient.

If you run into this problem then I would suggest a 40mb cache for a 2.2 ROM. On another note, although related to partition sizes, I have seen wbaw writing...

138mb system is getting a bit tight though, cm7 & gapps seem to be putting on weight, only about 2mb free now. 140mb or even up to 150mb might be safer, especially for proper gen2 phones where flashing is a bit of a hassle & a risk.

http://android.modaco.com/content-page/337...grade/page/340/

...it does make you realise that when amongst the first GEN 2 partition resizes was 136mb for system and 2mb for the cache they will then have consequences, especially with a 2.2 ROM which does not redirect the cache. I suppose it could be ok having a smaller cache for CM7 but I do prefer to have a more "complete" working ROM.

Glad that it helped you Martin. I am far from any sort of genius I assure you but I appreciate the compliment.

The credit must go to the very clever people who write, remix and code these wonderful tools and ROM's for us to use
