Guest dvdcompare Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 I thought My Net was to access files via your local network and then my Cloud allowed you to access your whole PC remotely? However I can only access my PC using My Cloud whilst I am in my house on the local network. Can it not be used remotely?

However I can only access my PC using My Cloud whilst I am in my house on the local network. Can it not be used remotely? The My Cloud app does a number of different things: The My Content section links into the Asus Webstorage system and then allows you to access files you've uploaded to that (or upload files directly from the tablet). The My Desktop section allows you to connect to a PC running the Splashtop Streamer server but unlike Logmein it won't automatically work through a firewall or NAT router so you'll need to allow access on the relevant port in order to get it woring from outside yout local network. Finally The @Vibe section allows access to online streaming audio. Which bit are you looking to access from outside your local network ?

So do I just enable the same port number contained in the settings?

Yes, though I think you need to enable the ports on either side as well. If you open the Server program and go to the Network tab it should say at the bottom if these ports are needed too. I have added port 6783 both TCP and UDP as exceptions in the Windows Firewall in Windows Vista but it still doesn't work outside of my local network. Any suggestions?

Any suggestions? What kind of internet connection do you have and what kind of modem or router hardware do you use ? You may well need to set up rule(s) for the relavent ports on your network hardware as well.

Guest Matchstick Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 Broadband connection and using a Netgear Sky Router. Right you will likely be using NAT then. I don't use sky myself so i don't know what options are available on the router they supply but this page I think covers the basics of opening ports to allow services to be available outside your local network. http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/view-ports.html Assuming that's the right page, try following the instructions for creating service for tcp/udp port 6783 (and also 6782 & 6784 if neccessary) and then create the inbound firewall rule allow that service through to your server. If the everything works right hopefully that should do the trick.
