Guest iceman_ Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 (edited) Hi, this post is about how to get something similar to modaco r8 but using latests 1.10 firmware from point of view. Before starting. You need to download: Visionary-r14 (be sure that you know how it works) http://android.modaco.com/content/software...one-click-root/ Adb Wireless widget (it's free) Grab it from the market or from this link. Do this:Download those files and put them in your sd card.Download 1.10 firmware from point of view. http://downloads.pointofview-online.com/Dr...ware%20upgrade/Flash it. BE CAREFUL AFTER FLASHING IT YOUR DEVICE WILL WORK IN HOST MODE. THAT MEANS YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO CONNECT IT TO YOUR PC.Install AdbWireless and Visionary-r14.Use Visionary-r14 to root your device.Connect your device to your network and run AdbWireless.Download Azur Package.Uncompress it. Edit the script for your OS and change the string IP with the ip of your tablet.Wait until the device reboots. That's all it is a little bit long but it deserves its way. Some comments: It won't install a new kernel (that means host mode). Choose the one you like it the most. It will install clockworkmod to make things easier. The boot animation is from http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...dated-have-fun/ (I hope he doesn't mind) I only have tested linux script others should work. Take this in mind and report if it worked for you. I have removed 3D Desktop stuff, you can install this if you want it back http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...n/#entry1566854 Ok enough. Now what you wil get: New screen driver (I think screen is better now, but check it for yourself). Sound bug fixed (no more 50% max). New wireless and bluetooth drivers. New framewokr libraries. Some new libraries. I think that with this firmware you will get the best user experience. I have been able to watch 1280x1024 and 1024x720 divx flawlessly. The screen is great, not perfect though. The device is smooth and responsive (No sound lag in emus for example). PS1: I did it for myself but I think is worth enough to share it with others. PS2: Check it and share your thoughts. PS3: Sorry if my english is not clear enough it is a long post and it's not my first language ask is something is not clear. Edited May 2, 2011 by iceman_
Guest Zebrahead Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 Not really ROM related, but I asked before and never really got an answer. Why use visionary? Of what extra benefit is it? both superuser binary and apk are already present, does it do anything more than add those? Thanks, Zeb
Guest warriorscot Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 Not really a rom though. For it to be a custom rom you would have to build a rom with the 1.10 base and add in all the apps you want to it. Whats in this Azur package anyway. Really if there is something new in the 1.10 firmwares that is going to be useful I would imagine one of the other Rom producers would pull it and add it to there own roms in the next releases.

Presumable the Azur package is r8 with whatever other changes. This would be applied on top of the stock 1.10. Zeb
Guest Zebrahead Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 I've inspected Azur-CustomRom.zip. Is the only thing different between that and r8 the bootanimation and that it flashes CWM? (I see that you also remove all of the POV Mobii UI/apps) Zeb

Thanks, Zeb I am not an expert but I think that it uses some kernel bug to put su binary in the read-only filesystem, but ask paul. I only needed a way to root the device and that worked fine. Not a big fan of names, may be I used a wrong term. It is the same as modaco r8 but to be applied to 1.10 firmware of point of view (you can read it in the first post) is like Zeb said in the previous post. Some fixes can't be applied like the kernel ones. On the other hand this firmware was released a month ago and no one looked at it. If this deserves to improve other roms is a well spent time.

My quest to find out why it has a use on the vega continues! Zeb
Guest iceman_ Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 (edited) I've inspected Azur-CustomRom.zip. Is the only thing different between that and r8 the bootanimation and that it flashes CWM? (I see that you also remove all of the POV Mobii UI/apps) Zeb It has the needed files to get full market and google apps working, it is a reduced version of what you can find in r8. The look and feel is the one from pov (medium size bar, custom icons...). Anyways the most interesting thing is what is already in the 1.10. Some new version of libraries, new framework libraries, new version of included tools and a new version of the kernel. (that and some personal preferences are the reason that most of the files of r8 are not included). By the way the libraries of r8 are out. It is in the first post (I'm starting to think that is too long). su is in the stock image (/system/xbin). There shouldn't be a need to insert it as it's already rooted! My quest to find out why it has a use on the vega continues! Zeb I checked it and provided su doesn't allow to root the device (at least in 1.10). So visionary step is needed. Guest the_corvus Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 I suggest that dont do the install of azur using adbwireless... you are upgrading your system via wifi, and this can be very problematic... use usb cable instead. Corvus.
Guest IndiaMike Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 I suggest that dont do the install of azur using adbwireless... you are upgrading your system via wifi, and this can be very problematic... use usb cable instead. Corvus. Well I just tried it, being a complete n00b and owner of a Vega for just over a week and it worked fine for me (YMMV). The major problems were 'look and feel' not to my taste and iPlayer wouldn't work on any of three flashplayer versions I tried (I should have left the stock version alone). Anyway, it was a good excuse to do a backup and restore using Titanium and CWM, reverting to Fuji-Vega in a matter of minutes. All good stuff. Now I think it's time to go to back to Corvus5 because I can't stand the transparency in the notification pull-down thingey in FV. It's doing my head in! Oh, and as this is my first post, a huge THANK YOU to everyone who's made all this possible. Such great software developed by some very clever people and a wealth of user experience makes playing with this toy great fun
