Guest Stejay Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 Right, I have a son and daughter both with an Orange San Francisco here the UK. They are both GEN 1. I installed the Swedish Spring RLS5 ROM on my daughter's phone and everything is working with no problems. On my son's phone however the phone keep throwing up "Android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly" messages at random intervals so I installed the MoDaCo Custom Froyo ROM R12 ROM instead and everything seemed to be ok until we just discovered that he cannot send or receive text messages. If he composes a text as soon as he hits send he gets a pop-up saying "Sorry! The application Messaging (process com.android.mms) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. If he goes to contacts and presses the text button there, the error appears immediately. I have sent him several messages and none have appeared. We have rebooted, removed the battery, reinstalled the ROM, etc, no to avail. He is a teenager and text is his main way of keeping in touch with us when he is out. Please help! Thanks in advance.
Guest DannyDanny Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 Strange.. Have you got APN setting correctly?
Guest Stejay Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 (edited) I don't know anything about APN settings I'm afraid. Can you advise me further, please? Just searched and found a post in it. I'll try now. Ok, checked and it was set correctly to orangeinternet. Gah! Edited May 2, 2011 by Stejay
Guest Michealtbh Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 (edited) There are a few things that might resolve this. Firstly I would try fixing permissions in Rom Manager or in cwm recovery. Failing that try a different messaging app (Go and Handcent seem to be the most popular). As a last resort try a different rom making sure you do a full wipe (including format /system and dalvik cache) beforehand. Hope this helps *Edit - it's highly unlikely this has anything to do with APN settings, but it's worth a try Edited May 2, 2011 by Michealtbh
Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 Its a force close - basically an android crash. You could try using a task killer first to ease the cpu's job. You may want to try a different ROM. (Sigh) I know you said, but installing the ROM zip file in clockwork WITHOUT wiping can fix. The easiest way is just not to use the default SMS client (the inner that keeps force closing) Go to the market and download "GO SMS" it is an alternative client which looks a bit different but it should work as an alternative. Hopefully it will not crash. Text rates etc will bee the same, the program is just the means of sending the message.

I have no idea where to start with this. Looks like I've got a morning of Googling. :-( Failing that try a different messaging app (Go and Handcent seem to be the most popular). It was actually my intention of downloading Handcent actually as he likes the SMS look on my iPhone. Anyway, intalled it, compose, send, and the message disappears and it says "No messages sent", and the same with Go. Nothing shows up in text history in either app. As a last resort try a different rom making sure you do a full wipe (including format /system and dalvik cache) beforehand. Hope this helps And how would I go about doing this properly, and whilst I understand there is an element of personal preference, but which ROM do you recommend?
Guest KACE_231 Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 The best most stable ROM is swedish springs 2.2: http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...-tft-gen1-gen2/ from the clockwork main menu, select "wipe data > yes" and "wipe cache > yes", and then go into "format & storage > format /system > yes"
Guest Michealtbh Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 I have no idea where to start with this. Looks like I've got a morning of Googling. :-( Install Rom Manager from the market. Open the app and scroll to near the bottom, there should be an option to fix permissions. Click and wait And how would I go about doing this properly, and whilst I understand there is an element of personal preference, but which ROM do you recommend? For stability, SS is probably your best bet. Follow one of the many guides on this forum on how to install a rom

This is very strange...are you uuing the orange similar that came with the phone? I would say a TPT would fix this...(they fix practically everything...) But I wouldn't do one unless you are prepared to loose all your data.

Hopefully it will not crash. As I have replied above, neither this nor Handcent crash, but neither do they actually send messages.
Guest Stejay Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 For stability, SS is probably your best bet. Sorry, do you mean Swedish Spring which wouldn't work properly on this handset, or the earlier 2.1 Swedish Snow?
Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 Sorry, do you mean Swedish Spring which wouldn't work properly on this handset, or the earlier 2.1 Swedish Snow? I think he meant Swedish spring  Personally I like fibblesans ROM. but I'm not sure if he still hosts it..
Guest targetbsp Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 If you restored texts from 2.1 using Titanium then this will probably happen.
Guest KACE_231 Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 Sorry, do you mean Swedish Spring which wouldn't work properly on this handset, or the earlier 2.1 Swedish Snow? Swedish Springs is android 2.2 and most certainly the best/stable see the link above

Guest xeyaztian Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 The best ROM, in my opinion, currently is Swedish Spring. Very stable and it supports all ZTE Blades out there. (Ive had it on an older Black ZTE Blade and a new White ZTE Blade) When installing make sure to wipe and clear cache before installing. Then if texts dont work... Phone Orange and ask them to set up your texts again, It ihnk thats when you get a phone and it asks you to turn on and off your phone. If this does not work... then you could try as others have said using a different messaging app. Dont restore using Titanium, just start a fresh as well. I think all this information has been given to you already, if none of this works, I personally don't know why, it sounds more network related though than phone. My partners Orange phone fails alot and they have never touched roms or changed settings on the phone. So try wiping and clearing cahce before installing, and not backing up, thats my advice anyway...
Guest KACE_231 Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 What exactly do you mean by "Swedish Springs doesnt work on THIS handset", where does it fail to work
Guest Stejay Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 Thanks for all the help guys. I reinstalled Swedish Springs again after a full wipe and we are no longer getting any of the android.process.acore crashes we had previously with this ROM, and texts are being sent and received again. Really impressed with the speedy response, what a great community there is here. Now it is all working properly, can someone tell me what the essential (preferably free) apps are please? He is sticking with Handcent and we've got ADW Launcher already.
Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 advanced task killer (like an android control although delete) screen filter (lets the screen go much darker - good for low light reading) launcherpro (I prefer it to adw, its very smooth -but it is all preference) opera mini ("low functionality" browser, I use alley for mobiledata connections, uses operas proxy servers to compress data. so its faster and uses less data) its all down to preference really...
